View Full Version : Handlebar Bag Recommendations?

Anyone have some experience with a good size handlebar bag? Looking for one to use mostly for commuting and maybe (in the future) some light touring. I currently use a small and old Kirtland. I don't like how it is just one pocket where everything gets lots. It also is a bit of a pain to take off and put on. Then again, it is about 30 years old.

The new bags seem to have easier ways for the bag to go on and come off and having multiple pockets allow for items to be more protected.

Any recommendations?

If you can run a front rack, the VO front bag is really pretty, fairly cheap and holds a lot.

Acorn makes a traditional looking front bag that uses a front rack but doesn't require a decalleur...

I am kind of enamored by the Ortlieb Handlebar bag, I have one and have used it for commuting and light touring.

Easy to remove, waterproof and a nice mount.

I'm digging this Jandd bag. Clear top sleeve for a map, main compartment big enough for three 1 liter water bottles, front zipper compartment for keys, snacks, etc. Spiffy handlebar mounting system that can be transferred between bikes with no tools.

Jandd bags are nicely appointed and well built. We we run them on our tandem.

Next set of bags will probably be Arkel. Arkel (http://www.arkel-od.com/us/all-categories/handlebar-bag/big-bar-bike-bag.html)

Thanks for the feedback so far. Has anyone had any experience with Topeak handlebar bags?

Cheers,

The Berthoud bag is the ultimate but it might take some fiddling to work on your bike. These things get better as they age - they are very well made.

Mike Kone at renehersebicycles has them - and I think Wallbike carries them too.

I haven't heard of those before. They look a bit like Acorn...
