Hi,

I finally got my Serotta Legend Ti frameset and I'm not sure about the yearof construction. its serial number is Ti 61 1682. What does 1682 mean? Does anyone have information on this?

thx, Rene.

thx a lot, Dave!

So there is no indication of the year in which this frame came out?

No, your serial number translates into: Ti the model, in your case a Legend Ti. 61 the size of your bike, 61CM. 1682 the sequential number of your bike in it's model range, yours was the 1682 Legend Ti made.

We didn't really build with 'model year' in mind so the serial number as no year reference in it.

For comparison mine came out of the factory 1/10/1995.

#TI 57L 1049.
The L indicates long geometry.
My Colorado II that I bought in 1990
Was a 57st with a 56tt and the long gave me a 57 x 57.
Mt guess is yours was late 1995 or early 1996.

thx for your infos ... the previous owner claimed something about 2001 or 2002. I will post a pic later this day ...

One detail that helps with the year is the rear drop out... they changed over time. A '96-ish will have different drop outs than a 2001/2002.

"Older" style drop outs, F1 fork... my guess is late 90's. What does the tubing decal say? The catalog section of the forum is a great reference. See what tubes you have and when they were introduced...

No downtube shifter bosses, flat rear dropouts, I guess 1999.

The F1 was still available in 2000, the tubing on the Legend that year (and 1999) was C4Ti. I couldn't tell about the dropouts, scan of 2000 catalog is too blurry.

The 2001 Legend had 3d dropouts, so your bike would be 1999 or 2000.

Since the standard finishes in 1999 were all painted, the law of averages would say that your's isn't a 1999, although it could have had a custom finish.

In 2000, "satin polish" Ti was the stock finish, and red/black decals were available.

I would say your bike is most likely a 2000 model.

thx to all of you, I will check the catalogues ... but your explanation, Oliver, seems reasonable ... I just took a look at the seattube sticker and I found "CCTi" on it!

Thx to all of you for your help. I think it's not that easy, but interesting, but next steps will be setting up this beauty and riding it!
