i have really enjoyed the winter riding season
www.cyclingthelakes.blogspot.com
and it seems that having a snow bike
is really catching on these days
...although the 'may i just say' thread seems now to be dead...
i have been having fun wondering if ben
has tuned in
and felt sorry for me...
...riding a 39.6 pound surly pugsley all winter...
i have been secretly thinking
he's problem solving the 40 pound winter bike, single speed dilema--
that he'd drop me a line
and suggest building me
a winter bike prototype
out of all carbon or titanium/carbon
just to be ahead of the curve!
...and have a contest to name the new creation...

I weighed the wheelset of my commuter and it is 10lbs. I guess my studded tires are no way nearly as heavy as you big-meat endomorphs?

I'm sorry,
My mind isn't processing "snow" and "bike" placed back to back.

Hey Spiderman, Great Blog, but it makes me glad I live in warm and dry Colorado, well at least it seems that way looking at all that snow and cold in your Pix. I missed ya in Maui, had some great rides. I will post some pix on the Maui thread soon.

That looks like a motorcycle with pedals.
i've had a couple people stop me and tell me
'you can't bring motorcycles out here'
when i've been on our off-road/recreational trail
convinced i 'had a motor on that thing'...
when i pedaled away
they were very surprised
thanks for the link, joe...that definitely takes the blog
up a few notches!

I think you have a better chance of me sending you a PM telling you I will build you a prototype. I don't build frames though.

That above bike is not actually Mike C's. Although, he does have 2 of them currently (1 with a YBB, and his Iditabike machine with internal gas storage).
Moots has built a few of these one-off snow bikes, but never for the general public. I have owned 2 of them over the years, 2nd hand.
Check out fatback bikes from Greg of Speedway in Alaska. I have a not over the top, price wise, ti snow bike from fatback that is sub 30lbs (27.6 complete). They are made by Lynskey for Greg.
