i've been looking for a set of campy 32 spoke wheels for a while, and when these popped up on craigslist, i snapped them up. seller thought they were current vintage record hubs. i know better than that, but can anyone ID what vintage they are? 10-sp era i assume. these should fit an 11-sp cassette no prob. correct? are mavic cxp-33 rims better or worse than open pros for a daily training wheel. thanks.

I may be wrong, and those that know more than I will correct me. They look like 9 speed vintage or early 10 speed. Fitting an 11 speed cassette will not be an issue.

Nice score... Silver Record 10s hubs are always a good buy.

Assuming you got them for a good price...no???

yea, i assumed that the skewers indicate that they are at least early 10-speed, maybe 9-speed.

when did campy stop selling polished hubs anyway? and when did they stop selling anything but record?

seems to me it was nice to have a full chorus or centaur, or even veloce groupset with matching hubs, i guess those days are gone.

Mr. Ergott built me a great set of wheels last year with veloce hubs, and they've been nothing but great, great fit and finish on them too.

i picked these particular wheels up for what i think is a very good price, they are perfectly straight and true, very little brake track wear, looks like they have more dust than miles on them.

Record hub, first made in 1998, made thru 2006 when the hubs went to black.

For info, Campagnolo went to 9s in 1997, 10s in 2000, 11s in 2009.

Great hubset along with Chorus and Centaur.

Did Athena ever make a 10 speed-compatible hub?

Did Athena ever make a 10 speed-compatible hub?

Athena existed in 1999, was 9s and therefore, 10s also. In 2000 Athena became Daytona which became Centaur in 2001(ownership of the name 'Daytona' issue)...

i must admit, what is most attractive to me about these hubs is the beautiful skewers that they came with, brilliantly executed design IMO

I had a pair of CXP-33 rims on my first road bike.

Not the lightest rims out there, but made of pretty tough stuff. If you're looking for something durable and relatively bullet proof, I think you made out like a bandit with that hub/rim combo.

+1, looks exactly like the Record silver 10s hubs I have. I believe the 9s Record hubs look different.

Record hubs from 1998 thru 2006 were all the same. Record was 9s until 2000 but the hubs didn't change, for info. In 2007 they became black and Record only and 32h only.
