"Lest the ride sound too crazy-hard, let me emphasize that, while difficult, it is not as hard per mile as D2R2, except in the last 40 miles, and it is *ridiculously* fun, especially if you have any affinity for dirt roads. I really worked hard on the fun element - narrow little side roads you wouldn't think of trying (especially when you're 100 miles from home!), general stores, scenery, all that Vermont stuff. Many climbs are very long with moderate grades, so you might climb for the better part of an hour, but then you descend forever. I promise that you will want to go back and ride certain roads again someday, they will blow your mind."

Sandy strikes again!

i've done the D2R2 100k many times and did the 100 mile course solo unsupported last year as training for the Leadville 100... some of those roads up there are just plain ridiculously hard.. but still make you grin (or grimace?)
If i don't get into Leadville this year, I'd try this event for sure.

D2R2 is a beautiful thing... I can only imagine what else Sandy manages to cook up.

If I can figure out how to gravel-proof my new frame I'm so, so in for d2r2. This other ride... kinda scares me. I'm not too proud to admit it.

A BMB rider described Vermont as being the same size as Texas
if you could just flatten it out.

Oh, man. You're killing me. Alls I got to do is find a brevet....

When I saw that I got all excited but the prereqs took some of the wind out of my sails. Then I got to thinking - the farm where I grew up is over on the east side of the state a couple ridges south of Woodstock and I bet I could without any real difficulty put together my own 100 miler on dirt and class 4 roads... stay tuned.

I had heard by word-of-mouth about the support vehicle requirement, which, knowing Sandy (a man who didn't have a driver's licence until his late 20s), surprised (and disappointed) the heck out of me. Having read the full form email in the link, I see the support vehicle is a very loosely defined requirement. It sounds like it could sit in a lot all day as long as someone is there to answer a call for help, so more or less, a friend in VT who was around for the day could be your "support vehicle" I assume. That's pretty reasonable.

yeah i think that's more for HIS protection, so he doesn't have to spend the weekend driving the 200 mile course, playing sag wagon and rounding up stragglers/carcasses. :help:

I'm going to do the Bash Bish 300 with Ti Designs and if we survive I'm in (and hopefully Ed too).

Thanks Sandy... sounds like another great ride to add to the schedule. Per the requirements... I agree that Sandy has to cover his behind. He could be out just riding these things on his own and not hassling with organizing these things for us. Thanks for the effort!

Snowball Express tomorrow:

http://www.adkultracycling.com/challenge/snow.htm

So I'm painting the front room on Saturday listening to the 40mph+ wind gusts howling in the trees making my brick house creak and watching the snow squalls blow by sideways thinking of the characters that rolled out on that ride. But for the grace of God and a can of paint much?

I have to say, though, one of these days I have to get out of the cellar off the trainer and on the road or my head is going to explode.

I'm curious: is anyone here signed up for the Green Mountain Double?
