Has anyone had OK experence using seatpost shims for say a 27.0 mm into a 27.2 mm frame. I used a shim made from a coke can on my 27.4mm Medici for my campagnolo record 27.2mm seat post for medici touring bike. Each day I would raise up Seat Post to correct heigth at the start of touring
At the end of the day it was down least a 1/2''
Yes I tightened the seat post bolt correctly. Maybe too much grease was the problem.
Is there a correct solution?
I ask because I have a dura-Ace new Seat post I would like to use but only have 27.2 frames
Thanks
Charles

I don't think anyone makes a shim for 27 to 27.2. The thicker walled shims with a ledge at the top can't slip into the seat tube and probably work pretty well.

I would recommend buying the right size post for the frame. A DA 27 post should be easy to sell.

Yes, you are certainly correct regarding the link I provided, hence removed.

I noticed also. But let up links for future reference.
I'm with just buy a 27.2 post school of thought.

I'm using one for the Colnago C50, Charles. Came with the bike. (bought used)
Not sure why Colnago made their tube non standard size.
It works fine.

I got the 27.0 seat post has a group from eBay germany. no choice in getting correct size.
Come on now there has to be someone who used an almost is big enough seatpost and made it work
Shims from beer cans works but you can get slippage over time

Have you tried coating the shim and post with carbon paste.
That may work.

use one with my peg (27.2 --> 27.0). no brand as far as i can tell. works great. no slide problems ever. but you'll have better luck with a "real" shims vs. homemade beercan variety.

You can use a 27 seapost in a 27.2 frame w/o any problem. Did it by years and still doing it.

I used a 26.8 post in a 27.0 frame with a soda can shim a number of years back with no issue.

Two notes:
1) There are frames/clamp combos out there that will slip even the right size seatpost. It's the truth of not always perfect manufacturing.
2) If you do make a soda can shim, the ends of the can should not quite meet around the post's circumference, just like the slot in the frame, so allow for clamping.

I've got a commercially sold 26.8 to 27.2 shim. It has a lip on the top so that it doesn't slip all the way into the seat tube when inserting the seat post. I've not seen one for 27.0 to 27.2. That is .1mm wall thickness, so perhaps a curved piece of beer can is a solution. Agree, buying a 27.2 post is even better.

I bought a shim (USE) to use with Record post when I bought my C50 but for the life of me I couldn't shove it in there... so I ended up buying 28mm Colnago seatpost and the shim sits in my miscellaneous parts bin to this day... :crap:

when I had 2 beaters one with fenders and one w/o I shared the saddle/post by shimming the larger ST with 2 wraps of .004" SST about 3" deep into the tube and clamped so that it deformed into the clamp gap (and therefore would mostly stay in place when I would twist the post into place).

The post never slipped, worked great. I don't have it anymore because a thief liked that bike (an old Fuji) better than I did.

I like SST better than Al for shims fwiw. I happened to come upon several lbs of this stuff and it's handy for this sorta thing. I could drop a section in the mail to ya if you don't come up with anything better.
