I have a friend who wants to buy an outstanding stainless steel frame, and I'm curious about which builder you all think is doing good work with that material. I know IF's SSR is a terrific machine, and of course there's Pegoretti's glorious Responsorium, but surely there must be many others out there that I'm forgetting.

XcR or 953?

if we simply abstract to stainless....
IF (terrific?)
Peg (glorious?)(IMHO the ciavete used to be more interesting and detailed)
Cinelli
Taylor
Kirk JKS (partial)
Strong

The Andersons look like beautiful (and relatively affordable) bikes. And I didn't know that Carl Strong made a full stainless frame. Thanks.

Ellis (Dave Wages). I think his lugged stainless frame is spectacular.

I believe Dave Wages (Ellis Cycles) makes a hybrid 953 frame.

To add to an already exemplary list, doesn't Ellis / Dave Wages also use 953?

Man, talk about cross-posting!

That was purely by coincidence.

If you like fillet brazed, Simoncini & Dave Yates both build them.

Baum (http://www.baumcycles.com/) does beautiful work in 953.

Mercian does nice 953 stuff, including a track bike.
