Randy DuTeau, quoted in the article, is a friend and tireless advocate for cycling. I didn't know Dr. Burke personally, but I felt like I did though Randy's updates.

Very sad indeed. I wish states and communities would do something to raise overall awareness of cyclists on the road and the importance of not texting, fooling with the radio, etc.

I feel a bit guilty myself...I have fiddled with my Ipod way too much, spilled coffee etc. It starts with us.

prayers, blessings, and mercy to the family of Dr. Burke and to the driver and his family as well as this was an accident... not that the driver shouldn't be help responsible, just I'm sure he not living it up all happy days since he killed someone...

It is with great sadness to report the death of Hal Kent.

A few weeks ago, Hal had embarked on an incredible cross-country solo cycling trip, with the intent of riding from St. Augustine, FL to San Diego, CA. Sadly, on Monday, January 31st, as he made his way across southern Mississippi, he was struck by a passing truck, and killed.

Hal and his wife Sherri have been living in Milledgeville, GA for the past several years, with Sherri as an active rowing referee and a rower when possible.

A memorial service for Hal will be held in Milledgeville on Saturday, Feb. 19th. The exact time and location for that service will be provided when more information becomes available. Sherri's mailing address is 111 Terrell Ave., Milledgeville, GA 31061.

My wife just told of another cyclist struck in town the other day this is the second in a matter of weeks. Last I heard he was in critical condition. Needless to say she is not very happy when I head out on rides now. She used to encourage me to go daily.
