IMO, Yes... What makes you feel it's a fake?

Hmm, the repaint makes me think about it. But I'm going to go with yes.

def. a repaint.

in later years the dropouts would be stamped "colnago" (which i had) but earlier versions used campy from what i understand (and also had).

True, but as the sellers guestimate production date would be the capmagnolo drop outs.

I think it's real w/ a poor re spray.

Maybe 76/77 mexico oro? No club on the fork crown, fluted seat stays, cable guides on top tube.

I'm not sure about the date when they switched from campy dropouts to colnago dropouts.

For reference, I have an 88 superissimo that has Campy dropouts.

You should ask the seller if the dropouts are campy, colnago, neither?

From what I can tell it looks real.

That's definitely the real thing- at least the frame is. However, I don't think that is a Colnago fork. The crown would be shaped a bit differently (more of a flat crown) with a clover panto'd into the crown on each side OR a similar sloping crown with the Colnago "C" depending on the year.

As for a year model, I would guess 76/77 as it has the longer rear 1010A drop-outs and braze-ons for the DT shifters, top tube cable routing, and cages. If I remember correctly, the shorter (1010B) rear drop-outs started appearing around 1978. It definitely doesn't have the drive-side drop out that has been drilled for a PortaCatena which appeared around 78/79. I may be off on my dates by a couple of years on these...

Here's a guide: http://campagnolo.wikispaces.com/Dropouts .

Do you really want to buy a used frame from the Ukraine?

You'd feel better about a new frame from the Ukraine? :)

It is a 71/72 frame with a non Colnago fork. It has had TT cable guides, shifter bosses and under BB guides added.

Crooks abound. Why is the Ukraine any better or worse than anywhere else?

As others have said, the fork is definitely not original. The fork crown is much too late for the frame judging from the long dropouts.

Also, the drive side dropout is bent downwards.

It does look like an early 70s model otherwise.

Additionally there wasn't any 130mm spacing during the stated prodction dates of 1980-1985. So the rear spacing has been modified. Or it is not from that time period.

Those dropouts at least the one picture are not long. My guess is it's more recent than the 99 I just sold. I can't get the full picure because at work I cannot access ebay.

I think you may be right... The seat stay flutes are shorter than later models to my eye.

Possibly real--but the frame (LONG dropouts) is older than the fork. Colnago's detailing has never, ever been as fine as some of the US custom builders whose work has given us a high visual standard. A really great Colnago has metalwork that Ben Serotta would never let out of his factory.
I'll say it's an early 1970's frame with a fork at least ten years newer.

Looks like it was repainted with a brush and a roller...

(Okay, a bit of hyperbole, but not the best respray in the world.)

No question that there are no borders for the bad guys. I thought that only mail order brides came from the Ukraine...

I must say, the dissection of this frame was quite masterful and impressive. You guys sure know your stuff.
