First a HUGE thanks for all of the input you guys have provided -- it has really helped. The overwhelming favorite was just to add the decals and be done with it. However, based upon some of your suggestion and working with the available Serotta decals, I have come up with another alternative that I like quite well. So do me a big favor and voice your opinion for the final two...

# 2 please....I am partial to panels :)
#1 is OK, but I would ditch the decal on the seat tube....

i'd vote for charcoal. purely personal, but red seems too loud. charcoal, grey or silver seems more understated. but lordy, it's subjective.

Door #1. If you want panels, they have to be on both tubes.

For #2 did you change the bar tape to red? Orange tape with red decals? - Of the two I'll vote for #1, but only if those are the only two choices. I liked the blue with the orange, and you must keep the orange saddle. If you change the saddle I'll take it - I have a black bike that an orange saddle and tape will look great with.

Hey DaveP -- On the #2 edited picture, I attempted to change all the colors to red as Serotta doesn't offer an orange decal set. I was trying to come with a color scheme that didn't involve painting the fork, so I went with red & black as these where the only colors that worked for me from the standard Serotta decals.
BTW, I only purchased the frame, fork and headset from Climb -- everything else resides at his house.

Is this the steel vs carbon thread #17 ???
With the gray / silver decals you can change the tape and or water cages for different seasons...
black, white , red , blue ...etc....... :D

Keith,
How are you going to do this without basically repainting the bike? Isn't the decal on the seat tube under clear coat? If so, won't you have to strip the clear, change decals etc then reclear? Can you strip the clear without touching the color coat? If you just add the decal to the down tube you could just clear over it.

I've already talked to Joe Bell about doing this modification for me and he said it won't be a problem to do what I want. I don't know all of the details, but it will require sanding off the clear coat and smoothing out the decal so that a panel can be painted there. This is why I have been focusing on the panel options as this is the only way to "replace" this decal without doing a repaint.

Not to make things more difficult, but have mentioned to JB doing custom logos? I know that they can make the logos and in affect just paint on the logo, that way, the logos could be in whatever color you choose (Orange) and your bike would be even more original. Just a thought. Regarding the 2 options, I would go for 1, but I would personally make the 2 logos match.

Door #1,
as stated above if panels do both in panels.
And personally I don't like the paneled "S",
looks too short to my eye.

I would go for 1, but I would personally make the 2 logos match. Are you talking about the decals in image #1 being slightly different? If so, then if I go with this option they will be the same color. I just didn't get a perfect color match when adding the decals to the down tube.

JB is good...but expensive. My thoughts are that if you decide to go to him, go to him and get it done the way that you want. Custom logos, panels, complete repaint, painted fork, etc..... You would hate to kick yourself later or be less than thrilled.

Keith, yes. That was what i was talking about. I would say 1 looks like the better of those 2 to me, but it is your bike.

panels are cool. Ask e-richie....I think JB painted this one ;)
BTW - I think JB painted the logos on the "mink blue" CSI dbrk sold (or is still trying to sell) recently.

Keith,
Do you still have the white Legend from your signature? If so, why not just do a complete repaint (would it really cost that much more) and have a bike custom painted for you that is different than all of your other ones. I am sure the seller (dbrk?) would completely understand. What about an orange bike with blue panels?
So Keith, how do you like the fact than in trying to get an answer between A and B, you really just end up with more choices. Its your choice all we have is our own ideas.

Do you still have the white Legend from your signature?I do still have this -- that is for now. Once I have Climb's CSi built, the Legend will be put up for sale. So I won't have a redundant color scheme in my stable. As for the price, with three girls still at home and college just around the corner for my eldest -- cost is often a factor, and JB will do the decals and clear coat for less than a full repaint.
So Keith, how do you like the fact than in trying to get an answer between A and B, you really just end up with more choices. Its your choice all we have is our own ideas. This is exactly the reason why I solicited my Serotta pals' opinions and I appreciate you taking the time to offer yours. I will certainly have to live with the decision I make, but I am interested in knowing what others think of my design choices.

Keith,
All the above said, I would go with the option 1. Especially since it involves the least amount of painting (of a frame that already looks wonderful), lowest cost, non-redundant (since the Legend is leaving), and just looks damn nice.

No matter what you ended up deciding, it's gonna be one super sweet ride.
I just don't understand how you could wait that long to build this puppy up. If I were you, and the package got to me at work, I would just go to my boss and pretend that I am having some stomach flu or something and rush home to build it up even if it means staying up the whole night. I know I am a downright sinner and in need of some spiritual cleansing. ;)

keith, for a frame as special as this one, having someone of JB's caliber do the work seems like money very well spent. your decision on the final scheme won't be easy. good luck. FWIW, i still like your original blue+orange ideas. first instincts are often best. :D

Ah Climb, why'd have to go and post that. I was warming up to one of the final two, but I think my heart was with the blue and orange scheme :help:

keith, i'd go back to your original thread, option 4 (S on seattube, panel on DT) but perhaps paint the fork pearl white to match frame. a blue fork, IMO, overwhelms the subtly of the S and panel. but the blue+orange is really sweeeeet. i do think that's where your heart is.

Climb -- How did you like this option, instead of the panel on the downtube and use the fork from #4?
http://forums.thepaceline.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=4693&stc=1
Char/ti decals. Lose the orange seat and bar tape. Set it up as a classic/understated bike. Small details like bottle cages or colored tires can brighten it up easily and cheaply. If you really want flash, then go whole hog the other way and get whatever fancy paint job you really dream of. As before, I think this project is going two different directions. Choose one (and the easiest, cheapest, and most timeless is the one I have suggested).

ah, subjective tastes. is anything more personal than color choice on a bike? ;)
keith, i like your latest option a lot. DT looks better this way, i think. admission: i have a deep fondness for orange + blue. as i kid, i fell in love with cars watching porsche 917s race for the gulf team...whose colors were blue + orange. so i'm biased. nevertheless, this last new option looks great to my eye.

Number one, though I would prefer it without the seat tube decal.
Cheers,

Keith - Like Climb, I also prefer the last option you posted! Very nice.
Maybe take a look at it with a white fork?
It's going to look great!

Needs Help -- Thanks for posting the black and white design! I could certainly live with this version.
Decisions, decisions...my problem is that I like many of the options that we have discussed and am having a tough time deciding which one to go with. So just to complicate things a little more, here are two more versions of the orange & blue scheme with different forks.
Thanks again for all the input!!!
remember, your member will be covering the orange saddle so you will
need orange shorts whilst riding _ perhaps THAT team with the "red shorts
issue" have an IN to a seller.

Now worries about the orange saddle as Climb is the only one with that saddle -- just plain old black saddles for me.

I really like both of the two latest. You might try the top one with blue tape. The bottom one with white fork is also very nice. I'm actually leaning toward that one. One thing I think is evident, at least in my opinion, is that you're going to need to paint the fork some color. I don't think nude carbon will do.
Those last two pics look terrific!
Maybe try white fork with blue crown.....
