So you guys have almost broken down my new school ways by piquing my interest in Brooks saddles. Is there a place that compares the dimensions between the brooks and other, more "modern" saddles?

If that doesn't exist, even a site that lists the measurements of particular saddles? I have looked at all the big web catalogs but nary a measurement to be found, just weights. Thanks!

Thanks. I have only poked around there a few times and found the brooks measurements. Is there anywhere that lists "modern" saddle measuremnts? I suppose I could just go to the manufacturers' websites and see what I dig up.

...to try a Brooks on a bike where I really am not too concerned about weight. In general I am not a weight weenie, but they are not real light. But if it were ultra comfortable I could easily see using one.

One problem is that on their "light" ti model (cannot think of the name offhand) the straight part of the rails seems very short and to end pretty far back. That would mean that the saddle will sit a bit further forward than I am used to. I need all the setback I can get and these saddles do not really allow it, or so it looks.

It will sit more forward and if you are useing a setback post now you probably won't be happy. As far as comfort I thought it was great.
Mine did start making a popping noise and on this forum I was told that that was normal? Does anyone else have this? I can't stand a bike that makes noise. See ya John.

Dude , trust me a buy a used B17N from Wall bike and don't look back. Its been by far the best move I've made to switch to Brooks. I have the new light weight yet expensive Swallow on order.

i find that i have to raise the front of the saddle up more then i used to on my terry. when it's level i have a tendency of sliding forward. i actually raise it a few deg. anybody have opinions on this? mike

MartyE - thanks for all that info, thats great - those are some wide saddles.

Smiley - I have to admit, it was you that originally turned me on to them.

The problem is, I'm still too "new school" to be riding something like that. Can I plop a b17 on my bike now? Or do I have to wait until i get older, realize that everything out there is a fad and they had it right 100 years ago?

My birthday is coming up, maybe that can be a gift...

several people who have ridden my bikes w/ B17 saddles have been impressed enough to buy a Brooks for their own bikes. Right Stackpole?? With Wallingford's money-back guarranty how can you lose? They did tell me that quite a few riders who liked their B17 were not comfy on narrower Brooks and so returned them. If you tell the Folks there what you are riding and how you like it they will make a recommendation as to the Brooks most likely to make you happy.
