He was 96, but I still it's hard for me to believe that he's gone. If there's anyone I'd have predicted to be alive and well at 100, it would have been Jack LaLanne.

Well, I don't think '96' and 'he died too young' go well in the same sentence.
But I hear you... reinforces what we all hope, that an active lifestyle will allow us a long, long time around here.
Look at Dave T, for example. :D

Yeah it's a shock. I just always assumed he would be around forever, or at least outlive me.

I felt the same way. In my fantasies, I did not think he was going to die.
My favorite quote of his which he said in his eighties; "I have sex almost every day. Almost on Monday, almost on Tuesday, ....."
May he rest in peace.

Jack is dead and Keith Richard yet lives,
drugs, sex and rock & roll or egg whites,
your choice.
Note that Jack looks much younger than Keith.

My Mom's favorite exercise was called "Scoot Your Boompter"
I don;t think you can say "Boompter" on TV anymore.

Oddly enough at the Grasshopper ride in Sonoma on Saturday the guy that slugging out the last few miles with me brought up Jack LaLanne. I hadn't thought of him in years, and the guy was telling me his favorite quotes.
Last night I read he was gone, kind of crazy...

i liked the guy -enjoyed reading about his feats - there was one where on his 70th birthday (not sure which one - but he was up there in age) he swam a few miles - that alone was an accomplishment, but he was also pulling a boat.

I met him and his wife a few years back, in a Morro Bay restaurant, after I rode the Lighthouse Century. He seemed quite interested about the ride as I told him about it. As he got up and left later on, he said, "And remember: If man makes it, don't eat it!" There was a bottle/glass of wine in front of him, but I didn't mention that. A very gracious, sweet man indeed. His wife too. Hope to see you on the other side, Jack. Jeff N.

He (was) a local here and we used to see him eating at the Pacific Cafe in Morro Bay a fair bit. Always a character. He talked loudly, ordered carefully ("No butter, sauce on the side of the pasta, darlin''') always flirted with the waitress and swore like a longshoreman. Never saw the table without wine on it. He was always gracious and seemed to thrive on fans who wanted to feel his muscle and get a picture with him. An American Original.
