Not another help me pick paint color thread but I am indecisive with this stuff. I have sent Keith Anderson an older Bruce Gordon frame for a nice restoration. Seen here:

Any suggestions? No red, fade or hot pink.

I'm lousy at creating color matches. Rather than copy other bike paint schemes that I find appealing, I look toward clothing and custom cars for inspiration. Check out some hot rod magazines or visit a place that sells clothing you like such as an outdoor wear type store or say, an L.L. Bean catalog.

Most recently, I was standing in line at the post office and the girl in front of me had on a dark gray, knit winter cap with just a couple blue and purple stripes. The matchup instantly made me think how cool that would look on a bike frame!

that semi metallic with the opaque fills is nice, maybe a variation on the same theme. I built a nice Waterford for a customer a long time ago that was a really nice barely metallic bright white. It would look nice with almost any color fill in the cutouts, yellow, brown, baby blue or maybe black for a fancy tuxedo look.

several hundred years ago when I was a wee lad I was into building plastic model cars...and the crowning achievement of that particular hobby was a model of a ~1959 Ford Panel Wagon that I painted Candy Sapphire Blue, with a Metallic Silver undercoat, and it faded from full-on Blue translucent topcoat at the front, to nothing-but-basecoat Silver at the back.

I would kill to have a bike painted like that.

Go to a local industrial / automotive paint distributor and ask to see the color chip catalogs and brochures.

Also ask if any of the catalogs or brochures for sale. Be sure to bend them to duplicate the frame tubes and look at them in daylight.

If you've got a frame you want painted like that, contact Joe Bell. There's absolutely no doubt in my mind that he can make it happen. All you have to do is describe the paintjob and he can do it. Jeff N.

Spend some time today and tomorrow watching Barrett Jackson on Speed. You'll get lots of good ideas watching those cars roll by. What a great position to be in!

The original color and accents look sweet but I can understand searching for a new look. What is the background of your build..black or silver? Are you running fenders? That all has a bearing on the final color of course. I always seem to be looking at the white bikes thread...the pearl whites to be specific.

Keith seems to be a master at metallic paint too; perhaps this Vanilla is in your palette?

When the original finish looks so classic I would have a very difficult time changing away from it in any way. Just my opinion...

I had mine done last year by Elliott Bay Cycles. Turns out they had another BG in the shop at the same time for repaint. Here's the link to Bob Freemans photos of both frames. Both turned out great.

That what I did for my Bruce Gordon
ask for photos via my email <cnighbor1@comcast.net>

Man, I love the rose metallic and the Vanilla Rando color has always been one of my favs. I'm also liking the steel blue metallic color on Keith A's site with that orange.

I think Charles is right in that this bike needs some pearl or metallic.

Anytime I have a frame that is going to be repainted, I use that as an opportunity to get something unique that really livens up my garage and ride. Price can be a determining factor if you go with different colors, masked lugs, cutouts, that sort of thing, but still, what a great opportunity to get something that is you! BTW, I sold my Bruce Gordon, but it was an awesome yellow with black accents.

Those lugs deserve something outside the ordinary!

Well, I stuck with a color that was close to the original. Take a look. Gonna build it up with some Campagnolo NR. I have some NOS parts and pieces, but I want to ride it and I am hesitant to use NOS stuff on it.

I like the idea of painting each of the circular lug windows a different color:

That bike of yours is simply stunning. I'll have to put that on the dream list right behind a Weigle.

Just super lovely. I never paid much attention to BG always associated them with the rocknroll's but the road bikes WOW !

I have a CD with 250 Bruce Gordon bicycles photos
To be true to his colors than you need to do one of his choices. after that the sky is the limit. He used maimly metalics of 80's
Have me send you photos of mine.

As a matter of fact it IS a metallic, and it IS from the original Imron chart.
In my humble opinion, the color is true to Bruce's aesthetic.
I could see your objection if it had been painted neon or something...

Charles, neon pink was my second choice but Keith talked me out of it:) No, this is a very 70's metallic kinda color. Can't wait to get my mitts on it.

Love your paint work Keith

A suggestion for colors is very subjective everyone will have there likes and dislikes

With that said if you go to the ottrott se paint page , try the race scheme, with porsche bebe blue, Black accent and silver in the rear section.
OR
you can reverse it with the silver up front, black accent and porsche bebe blue in the rear.

See what you think.
