Very sad. :(

I hadn't heard about this tragic story before: http://cyclistsinternational.com/?p=120 (eight cyclists killed by a driver on drugs)

Terrible shame. From the Velonews story, it sounds as if it was one of those freak accidents.

my daughter is about her age and raced against her in college at the nationals. A very talented rider, we are very sorry. Yet how many of us get to go out doing something we love doing? The brevity of a life can be regrettable, while the achievements in that same life are remarkable. She presented herself well and competed with zeal. We need more of these kind of people, not fewer.

Oh what terrible news. For those who rode the Gran Fondo last October here in San Luis Obispo you may remember her.

So sad.

Once years ago while on the bike I had a really bad brain-fart and started to cross a three lane road from a side street with a car coming from my left. Either I didn't see it or it was going way faster than I thought and I didn't look long enough to figure that out, but regardless, if the driver hadn't swerved into the center turn lane to avoid me it would have been curtains.

It's scary how a bad split-second decision can result in such massive consequences. I got lucky, Carla wasn't.
