. . . but to me every one of these team kits--except maybe Katusha--looks like they were designed by a committee on tranquilizers. Yaaaaaawnnnnn . . .

Cyclingnews.com's resident Mr. Blackwell doesn't seem to like many of them, either.

i can't believe he gave the highest marks to the radioshack kit. so ugly (though better than last year). i'm glad i don't have to worry about being paid to wear any of those.

Dave;

It's not fashion or design, it's advertising.
it's a billboard.
And with today's multiple sponsored teams there is
no way to make it look cool.

When I hit the lottery and sponsor a team I'll let you
design the kit

i like the new leopard kits. they look clean and classy to me. i prefer the smaller logos and understated look. i agree though, the rest of them are pretty poor.

I am loving the Leopard kit. Looks classy as all get out. They took Team Sky and raised them.

Hommé,

From UCI rule book

"Votre barres ne doit pas être X de BB et votre kit doit être laid"

Google Trnaslate says

"Your handle bars must not be X from the BB and your kit must be ugly."

to me, the radio shack kit is the worst of the bunch and uglier than last year - wonder if they ever conduct focus groups to get input.

I thought it was one of the best two and much better than last year (would have preferred a brighter red, though). Think all those pansy-a** pastel blues and greens and whatever belong in the distaff peleton.

I have a few years of these. Local (for me) guys doing good work. Probably discussed here before. If you're looking for good cycling wear both on and off the bike. I mean well constructed - dare I say fashion forward. Now that's the perspective of a 54 year old middle class straight white guy who left to his own devices would wear stripes and plaids together, but who would never wear leopard, zebra or tiger. Well at least not mix them.

Have you ever considered that the people designing the kits are not trying to please you?

When I read that piece I had to stop and go back to look at the scores several times because it felt like oppositeville. Then I wondered if the piece was intentionally backwards to be funny.

Look at Lotto, then look at Movistar. Which one has taste, shows the logo, has an interesting design twist, and should be easy to pick out against the blacks and whites? Or as a more extreme example, Lampre vs. the Shack? The Shack has some of that same already-dated-by-the-time-it's-worn closeout bin look of Lotto. To be a great kit it should have some element of timelessness, discovered style and effectiveness, which incorporates visibility and fans wanting to buy it and ride it. Sky and Lay-O-Pard have that good-for-a-season but now it's done style, but Movistar and Lampre look good for a decade or more.
