My friend Pete guided me on this ride yesterday.

Here are a few pics and a You Tube link. Sorry about the "studdering" effect of the video (funky Flip Video camera attached to handlebars).

About 2 miles I get a flat...

Great shots - you gents were riding' in my back yard. Old La Honda is the benchmark climb here on the peninsula and also my favorite. 3.4 miles at 7.2% and pretty steady throughout. Everyone who rides around here knows their OLH time. And that loop you did is generally known as the West Alpine loop (except you cut off the descent down Page Mill), my favorite ride below 40 miles. Finally a break in the weather too from the incessant rains in December. That last pano shot is actually on Skyline though, not Alpine.

Thanks for correction, my first time on this route. BTW Alpine was a pretty decent climb too after doing OLH.

My now 11 yo daughter rode up OLH at age 9 on a KDR1000 (see pic). 47min, 2 stops. she can do it now with one stop in just under 40. Me? more like high 20's. majl? more like low 20's...

West Alpine is great unless it's 4:30pm on a 85 degree day. completely open western exposure.....

miss that ride...

nice to see that someone re-opened the little grocery store in La Honda. Good place to refuel before a long slog out to the coast!
