Now that am retired (all 6-days), am finding that paying $10-12/bottle for a decent table wine is gettng to be a burden on a fixed income. Am wondering if anyone is drinking any box red wines (typically 5+ bottles per box) that they can recommend? Picked up a box of Vella cab ($18) this morning (along with a mixed case of CA/French reds) and will report back in a few days. $25/week for box wine is certainly better than $65, or so, for bottles, if are palettable. That's another $150+ a month for bicycling, music, books, food and travel.

Black box is tolerable. I like the Shiraz. Great for cooking!

Big House Red in the Octavin box. Four bottles for the price of three. I find this wine very drinkable and have never been disappointed by it; very consistent.

fish eye is a passable brand. we actually had a party at the house a few weeks ago and got boxes of fish eye, none of the attendees were really discerning wine drinkers, and everyone seemed to enjoy the wine.

try Rex Goliath in 1.5L bottles if available near you; their Zinfandel is decent, and the Cab and Merlot are okay.

pretty much a wash $-wise with box wine, and keeps for a day if you cork it well.

it's become our every day wine; at $10 bucks for a 1.5 it's a bargain; plenty of $15-20 750ml wines aren't as solid.

cheers,
john

I've drank quite a bit of Bota Box product ($18), but recently switched to the slightly more expensive Black Box ($20). Each has 3 liters or four bottles.

Both are tolerable for everyday drinking, IMO, but I'm no conoiseur of fine wine.

Just heard from my friend the wine collector/trader/seller. He also recommends Black Box. Tells me it is his daily table wine. Now have to find a local retailer.
