don't think I have ever seen this on a non-integrated headset. like the idea of a built in chunk of spacer. From the brand BBB:

Cane and others have clean alternatives with variable height. most of the top cap stuff is for integrated or hidden, but they're out there.

VO has an interesting alternative as well for those who don't like spacers.

include at least 20mm of spacers, would it not be a practical idea just to make headsets that include a top bearing cap like this? i'm going to do an informal reasearch project and look at bikes and figure out what percentage have at least 20mm of spacers.

what percentage would you guess?

I bet 80% have at least 20mm of spacers.

That would be a neat idea. Or at least come with something more elegant than a pile of spacers. For integrated headset there are some conical spacers that look cool...
