View Full Version : Fun to be had in Austin?

The college crew is getting together in Austin this weekend to stumble around the city and watch UCONN whoop up on UTexas on saturday.

Aside from visiting Mellow Johnny's, is there anything fun to do during the days for four 25-year-olds?

Obviously a spin around the city on some bikes would be nice but only 2 out of 4 of us are cyclists. So does anyone have any good ideas?

If you like live music, it don't get much better than Austin... Day time is for sleep and recovering for hang overs...

Day time is for sleep and recovering for hang overs...

I would concur... :)

Saturday:

1. Have breakfast at Juan in a Million's (have the Don Juan- the breakfast taco to end all breakfast tacos).

2. Go to the Texas History Museum and the Capitol.

3. Go grab lunch at Green Mesquite BBQ, Stubbs, or Scholz Garten.

4. Go watch your UCONN players get their a**es handed to them.

5. Go have dinner at the Chili Parlor or the Shoal Creek Saloon.

6. Piddle around town for an hour or two (6th, 5th, or 4th streets).

7. Go see Jon Dee Graham and James McMurtry at the Continental Club.

That should get you through Saturday.

Sunday:

1. sleep late.

2. Go to Polvo's or Kerbey Lane Cafe for breakfast (OR go to the Gospel Brunch @ Stubb's).

3. Go for a drive out by Lake Travis.

If you're in town on Friday, have dinner at Guero's and go see Gary Clark Jr. at Antone's.

Each of these should give you a little slice of Austin-cana...

Anyone up for an approximately four hour winter slow ride West of Austin on great roads with more cows than cars let me know.

Yeagar Creek Road is a true blessing and Middle Creek is not far from perfect.

Here's the route:

that's one of my favorite routes when we were still living in Austin, except that I would go all the way to Johnson City, get on 281 for a bit and turn around at Cypress Mill. I missed riding there.

tex-pal pretty much got it nailed.

cheersSpeaking of one, head out and have a beer and watch the sunset over the lake at the Oasis. Don't waste your money on dinner, as the food is far better in town. But, the beer is cold, the chips & salsa are decent and view is great. Don't worry if you fall off.............. after a couple of bounces against the cliff face you'll hit the water. Probably only about 100 or 150 feet.
For a bakery breakfast try Sweetish Hill on west 6th.
