hey bro since i started riding again i would have thought my fixed gear would be the go to bike ...well it is not ( warning stop reading now if you don't like caad7's ) the caad 7 is as good a bike as most bikes i have been on and i have been on a few over the years... ok not as good as a couple one being a steel serotta ..but
my caad 7 is what i pull out . i think the 2 bikes worked it out the f.g. told the 7 to go easy on me get me some bike shape and then f.g. will take over .the caad 7 rides fine i have my merckx waiting but it's my art bike all 90's stuff gl330 's that's for when i learn to ride again imho
really i rode fix the first day and it hurt my knee rode the 7 the next day knee is fine .the worse thing about the caad 7 is all decals it is like a sign board
imho the bike you use has something to do with the level of bike fitness you have
cheers

I look at my fixed gear bike most longingly, think about a geared bike, the main one being a custom Teschner, and errr, ultimately it's decided by whether the ride is going to be flatlands or hills. Mostly.
Love the fixed gear for bombing through the city.

Mine is my Waterford. It just fits. Short ride or long ride, it doesn't matter, that is my go to ride.

My Bedford tourer. I'll let you know if anything changes when I get my Hors back from Bedford with its overhaul & S&S conversion. I think they both have their uses. Least used is my fixed gear. What can I say? Nothing but hills around where I live...

My CSI. Without hesitation. I've got a Cannondale Six13, which is great for pounding up hills and is quite stiff, but I could sit in the saddle of my CSI all day.

gonna swap the group over to crabon bike by the spring, but for now... it's still the caad9. aside from being slightly unpleasant on the sitbones for longer rides, it climbs hills and descends better than any other bike i've been on.

My Serotta CDA is the go-to bike. Just fits and feels right.

Although I agree, your fitness level does really help make the choice...

Hey Thwart love the Seven  , I enjoy my CDA too but with all the salt air and fog here in "Frisco" I'll grab the Seven Ti and save the CDA for those clean clear pristine days. More than likely I'll end up selling the CDA here.

Not raining yet, dry roads:

I tend towards the most recent build. That's what I rode yesterday, even though I didn't have the lock ring for the non drive bb cup or the correct brake cables. Strung a derailleur cable in the rear brake and got a decent ride in just before it got too dark to see the road. Useful ride, found a couple of things I want to change, and the bb cup stayed in place. Even though that was the most recent build, there's another waiting in the wings that has been done for a couple weeks but hasn't been ridden. New steel frame that's not going out until the roads are dry.

Conditions have a lot to do with what I ride. Thursday was really wet, so I rode the fendered bike. I won't ride the nicer bikes if it's sloppy or the roads have salt on them.

Probably put about equal miles this year on my Atlanta, steel Allez, Cannondale Optimo, and my Cannondale mtn. bike that I pull the trailer with.

The Cinelli MASH. Sometimes I'll say, "oh, ride the steel Georama -- it's a classic track bike," or "pick something with gears," or "you should probably ride the cross bike once before the season starts.

But the Cinelli gets the call almost every time...

Closest bike to the door with air in the tires. That pretty much translates to the bike I rode last. When I want to switch bikes I switch which hooks they're hanging from and pump up the tires. So, every fall I switch to the fixed gear, every spring I switch to the Serotta. A simple system for a simple rider...

That WAS winter...Last week, to be exact. What you don't see is the bank of clouds coming up that dumped on me, and the 25 knot winds that blew it up the mountainsides into my face. Here is a shot of the bike after. Note the 'waterproofed' Garmin:

I rode my IF Ti Planet X the most (before it got stolen -- filthy criminals!). Now I ride my Vanilla cross more than the others, though that likely would have changed if the Kirk JKS had fit a tiny bit better. Having just picked up an Ottrott from a forumite, I'm curious to see if it's as smooth as I remember. Unfortunately, the experiment won't meet rigorous scientific standards: the old one had Ti stays; this one has carbon. Regardless, it should get a lot of use during the rainy season here. My guess is that it will be the go-to bike till spring.

When I want to check on my fitness level, I pull out the Nagasawa.

For most short rides, my Singolo and SS Odonata.

To get crazy and stress relief from work, I grab my RS CX for urban hip hopping.

Never owned a CAAD anything but raced in them back in the 80s.

By far this bike gets ridden more frequently than any other. It may not get the most miles but it is my go to ride.

The only bike I would consider replacing with a custom if something happens to it.

Waterford cross fixed gear-to work in the morning, for running errands, and Thursday beer night with the boys

Pegoretti or Look- weekend club rides

Santana tandem-for when the wife thinks the club ride will be too fast for her on a single bike

The Velo-Orange Rando- for day dreaming as it exists only as a frame and a box of parts right now

If I had to choose just one, it would be the Pegoretti. Its not as quick as the Look, it can't haul stuff like the Waterford, but its probably the best all around bike I have.

I am spoiled for choice but my Giant TCR ISP is my daily workhorse and it usually ends up being my weekend ride too. I like pretty much anything compact and rarely ride my steel Moser or Masterlight nowadays. My Merckx SC is a blast and fast but so too is my Cervelo R3. At the end of the day as long as I am out riding something I am happy.

I used to kind of cycle through my frames on a regular basis, some would get ridden a bit more than others, but in general it was a pretty even distribution if averaged over a year.

When I would get a new frame in, there would be a spike of exclusivity around it for a month or two, but then back to the normal rotation.

The Bedford is different. I have had it now for almost a year and it gets used a solid 75% of the time. It's really special.

This is kind of strange to admit, especially here.

But most rides it is just a chrome Bianchi Pista P.O.S. 71 inch fixed gear no fuss, no muss, no worries. Just get on and pedal.

If it is really windy, longer than 50 miles, or a larger group ride then the Legend Ti.

Beyond that it's de-mothballing old track or road bikes for special occasions.
