One more question for all you experts out there to the novice in here...

Can I install an UltraTorque crankset (53/39 Veloce alloy) at home, or do I need to ask my LBS to do that? What tools do I need, and can I get them at the hardware store?

Record BB cups already previously installed and in pristine condition.

Thanks again.

All you need is grease and a 10mm allen that is long enough to reach into the bolt. Torque wrench is a nice touch, but make them TIGHT!!

just did a Athena crank yesterday, I would add you may need a torque wrench you can dial up to at least 42Nm (my Park TW-5 tops out at 15Nm).

this is correct, as long as the BB shell has been faced and is within the proper dimension spec. You can probably assume it is if there was another UT crankset on the bike operating fine. its very easy.

isn't there a retainer ring that requires the associated pliers?

Even a doof like me can install the clip with a good ol' generic small tip pliers...

There is a wire retaining clip, but no special tools are required - maybe a small pick or screwdriver.
