There seem to have been a great number of posts here recently regarding cycling accidents and fatalities. While I in no way wish to minimalize these specific occurrences or disrespect those involved, I think it is worthwhile to pose a counterpoint to the seemingly widespread notion that bicycling is one of the most dangerous things someone can do. Though I realize that the information in the following link could be argued against, like just about all empirical or anecdotal evidence, I feel it important to try to resist succumbing to the fear of bicycling, as it might be easy to do upon seeing such an inordinate number of posts on bicycling-related tragedies. Let's remember, if every car accident were reported in the newspaper, we wouldn't leave the house.
Now to that link--but first, the title of this thread is derived from the statistics mentioned under the "Fatality Rate by Hour" subheading about halfway down the page.
