Been a while since I've seen a "weekend ride thread" and always enjoyed seeing pictures from random parts of the country. Spiderman as we all know is out riding and sharing as is Oliver1850. With that said, I thought I'd share a couple of pics from a place that gets no snow or ice. Rough I know....

80 miles with the boys, slow and steady with some climbing. As I neared home I veered off and snapped a couple pics. Nice Maserati in the first one ehh?

Yeah, some riding after X-country skiing! Nor'easter coming in tomorrow, studded tires getting a workout.

Nice pics of the Southwest, azrider!

Enjoy your life...

Here today: Below 30ºF until noon. By 2:00PM we get to our high of 41ºF. But a cloudy and damp 41ºF. Salt on the wet roads from yesterday's dusting of snow. Starts to get dark at 4:00PM. Tomorrow rain and snow flurries.

No ride today. Freeweights at gym tomorrow.

Could be worse but it still kinda sucks.

Mother Nature offered a little gift today in New England and it would have been churlish to refuse. Low 40s, bright sun, low wind (this last particularly rare). A quick 35 felt awesome after a week riding Italian mountains on the RealAxiom. I thought I was done for the year (about 4150 miles, hundreds less than prior years), and looking at the forecast I think I'm done again - my standards change after I decide it's time to stop.

Can one of the mods please delete (or at least lock) this thread?

It's just not right to subject the forum to those flaunting their good weather. ;)

(On this graphic they don't mention the 40 mph gusts today and the 45 mph gusts tomorrow.)

Nice pics, wish I was there. I quit getting car mags years ago, the Maser looks cool, wish it had some color though. Was just listening to weather radio, 60mph winds and blizzard warning for us. Then it's gonna get cold.

Just finished 20 miles in the rain. "Pineapple Express" is moving into Seattle area this weekend w/heavy rain; I got out while the rain was still "moderate." Bike is drip-drying in the garage.

Chesterfield huh? Born and raised there and before you ask.....went to Parkway Central ;)

As for your comment, which I know was said in good humor, is allllll relative. Starting in December (this year) and lasting through March (sometimes) the Midwest and East coast suffer through $hitty winters. In Arizona, starting in June and lasting through September (this year) it can be just as unbearable. The human body wasn't built to withstand 115* temps for days, weeks on end. It's insane how hot it gets. I've been here for 7 years and would move back to the STL in heartbeat.....but days like today make it juuuuust bearable enough to last till May and then the cycle repeats.

My zip code is Chesterfield, but I actually live just west of Babler State Park, way out on the west side (where the riding is nice :) ) I used to live just down the road from Parkway Central.

Agreed, you guys have to deal with the heat, which is also quite tough. I'd rather ride in 30* temps than 100* but beyond that, either extreme makes it no longer much fun.

I used to live in Tucson. Winter riding there was awesome! Summer riding on the other hand....... I never could get used to having to finish my ride by 9 AM in July!

I took the cross bike out and rode singletrack through the woods. It was only 40 degrees but I was plenty warm.

Only 48 this morning with heavy fog. I thought west central Florida was warm. At least no wind. Still a nice 45 mile club ride praying for the sun to burn through the fog. Actually felt great all day and rode strong. Cold weather for us down here, but no snow. Looks like the east half of the country is in for a change. Glad those of you in the NE made it out today.

Keep staring at the third pic from the top, and imagine heat. Hot, sweltering heat.

Close your eyes. Heat, remember what that feels like. Sweat dripping, jersey sticking, mouth dry. Heat.

No, no, no... don't look outside. No, no... don't think about the forecast for the next 72 hours.

Heat. Sweat. Hot.

Good. :p

our ride today didn't last long
and soon i was called out to rescue a good friend
and her son who had ventured out to walmart
getting themselves stuck in a snowdrift...
glad to be back safe and sound.
very much considering a trip south
as soon as weather permits.
i may have to sign up for the cyclinghouse training camp
in order to have something like what you've shared
to look forward to...thanks for the inspiration!

azrider,

What part of town did you take those shots in?

Just a few more days, and I will once again be in sunny AZ - thankfully.

On the bright side, I did get to ride today ....

Not as bad as it seems though, I open the garage doors and can watch the snow fall.

azrider,

Looks like Troon. Lots of good riding in North Scottsdale. I wish I was in AZ - my CSI needs to be ridden. Maybe a few days over Christmas.

No photos but had a good 60 mile ride this morning. I thought I would try getting out in the low 30s tomorrow morning but with the wind it is going to feel like the low 20s.

TMB: If you hurry you'll get here for some record temps on Mon or Tues. It's spose' to be N of 80*. This is the ONLY time of year i like to hear the words "record temps."

Jeff: You're exactly correct. The pictures were taken on the East side of Pinnacle Peak. Our group was heading South on Pima from Bartlett Lake and I decided to break off and climb Dynamite and surrounding area.

Thinking about hitting the TT bike or South Mountain tommorow.....tough choice

Sadly, won't be there that soon. Leaving here Friday morning, get in Sunday.

And even worse, it is starting to look like I will be getting a plane back home on Tuesday and leaving the family in the sun ...

I really need to be retired.

Saturday was a nice day in New England, starting out in the high 20's but forecast to get to 40 with bright sunshine. The plan was Harvard square to Harvard MA and back, for a total of around 70 miles. When I met up with the group I knew it was going to be a tough day. 14 guys on race bikes, most of them half my age. The only guy older was on his Serotta with Zipp 303 tubulars. I'm on my Surley Steamroller, the rusty 27 pound fixed gear, turning a 44x20 with cross tires on. I hung on for the first half, letting a gap open as the road tipped down and chasing back on as it went up. From Harvard center I decided to give up on the group ride and go my own way.

so my daughter (11 y/o) and I went out riding today as she is training for a 350 mileish ride over spring break (over a week) and she was a trooper... today was the first day she had any kind of hills... at the tail end of the ride was about a 200 yard stretch that was 10-13% for most of it... she did the thing without stopping! I was so proud she didn't give up even through she was saying she couldn't go any further for most of it... that was my Sunday ride and it was fantastic! Had a great mountain ride yesterday as well...

AZ, what's the bike in the last pic? A Look, maybe?

Crap weather in VT today, but did get in a 20 mile ride along the Connecticut River yesterday. Today, with rain and 40 degrees, all the dirt roads are glare ice, from what I hear. Good gym day...

Yep on everything but a ride today, I had obligations. Being retired, I will be out tomorrow, though.

Loving the weather this week, but I have to ask, what is with the locals wearing tights, jackets and long fingered gloves when it's in the 60's? HTFU

@Z: agreed 100%.....and don't give me that "the desert has made my blood thin" crap.

@TV: no it is a 2011 BH G5. Still dialing in the fit (notice the stem is white in first and black below) but so far it's freakin awesome piece of equip. FWIW my last bike was a C'dale Super Six and w/ only 300 miles on the BH I'd take it hands down if asked to pick.

Bump to the top for the holidays. Maybe TMB will post his pics, too.

No chance to get out on Christmas Day, though it was very warm here today, albeit windy. I did manage a nice ride yesterday, on Christmas Eve. My usual route, 30 leisurely miles though Paradise Valley, in the Mummy Mtn area.

Here is the North side, looking East, Four Peaks in the distance. The roads suck in PV, the frost heaves are killer ;)

http://lh3.ggpht.com/_yN4-Z85dhz0/TRUNkpPHP0I/AAAAAAAAE4U/exMoka--YPo/s912/P1000702.JPG

Up to the top of Hummingbird, ready for the roller coaster down, sharp right back up.

http://lh4.ggpht.com/_yN4-Z85dhz0/TRUNlgAYLXI/AAAAAAAAE4g/va--rb2E52Y/s912/P1000705.JPG

Stopped at the top just for you folks, looking off to the North East.

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_yN4-Z85dhz0/TRUNlyZVjSI/AAAAAAAAE4k/clzUsucC3-g/s912/P1000706.JPG

Heading down for the last blast, a 40+mph coast, coming back up at 12%+ is harder.

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_yN4-Z85dhz0/TRUNms-6l6I/AAAAAAAAE4o/SjkBoYFqx18/s912/P1000707.JPG

http://lh4.ggpht.com/_yN4-Z85dhz0/TRUNnzpfVtI/AAAAAAAAE40/hf632zq9Tvk/s640/P1000710.JPG

Heading back up, hill repeats are good for you. Rich people live up there.

http://lh4.ggpht.com/_yN4-Z85dhz0/TRUNoEfGDWI/AAAAAAAAE44/HiD2jkytZGw/s912/P1000711.JPG

http://lh3.ggpht.com/_yN4-Z85dhz0/TRUNosKX-tI/AAAAAAAAE48/S71WcZy9y7o/s640/P1000712.JPG

Now I'm down South of Mummy, on the North side of Camelback. That's the head of the camel, and the Praying Monk rock formation just above and to the right of my house.
