Title says it all- I am looking for a campy compact crank in a 170mm and square taper variety. Record, chorus, centaur- it doesn't matter. Have a UT with english cups you'd sell on the cheap- I am all ears too!

This WTB comes with a story. I have a good friend who got me into cycling. Because of him, I have more bike stuff than I know what to do with and am in much better shape than I otherwise would have been. 2 years ago, my friend lost his job and has had to make do with various short-term positions. All this is to say that he keeps riding around on an old alloy campy crank with gears that are a bit too stout for him. I know he's been interested in going the compact route, but with a family to worry about- any bike purchases have long been frozen. This holiday I would like to surprise him with the crank that I know he would never get himself. So fellow forumites, what do you have that could fit the bill?

Thanks in advance!

Be aware that Record/Chorus take a different BB length that Athena /Centaur.

What does he have now?

He has chorus now.

Record and Chorus is 102mm spindle and Centaur is 111mm spindle. No Athena(or Daytona) compact. Also Record and Chorus are carbon only..no aluminum CT in those levels. for info. Also lots of Veloce CT on ebay..111mm spindle as well.

How about a triple? I've got a new Racing Triple and good used 111mm Centaur BB for $125, shipped.

I have a new black Xenon 34/50 in 170. I have a polished Veloce 34/50 but it's a 172.5. Both would require a 111mm bb. I would suggest a compact compatible front derailleur as well.

I have a Centaur CT FD I'll offer at a reasonable price or even trade for what's on there currently. Mine is a 32mm clamp, but I think many campy FDs can swap clamps.

May not be true with the newer FDs like the CT, etc.

Thanks for all the replies- he currently has a chorus double- so that means he has the shorter spindle length. I am actually looking for something in carbon- as I think it will make a nice little upgrade. Not looking for the triple only because I want the new crank to fit into his existing system with no additional parts required.

For info, don't need a compact FD. Compact, via FSA and others WAY before CT Fders and the standard FDers work fine with compact.

Have a carbon compact 170 that uses a 102 Campy BB .... if it can say ergomo in orange lettering on the arms, send me a PM.
