“I lived a very different cycling,” Cipollini told L’Equipe. “At the beginning of a sprint, I felt like a gladiator, ready to do anything to keep my place. And when I lost, I wasn’t capable of going to congratulate whoever had beaten me, like Andy Schleck did at the Tour. Me, I’d hate him because he’d taken the bread from my mouth.”

When it comes to being a gladiator, How about Cav?
Similar attitude, just miles less style than Cipo.

VF, also miles less style.

Good read........ and I agree with the doctor. As someone who taught 14-15 year-olds until this year, I could not agree more. Getting more difficult to tell the boys from the girls every year. Mostly in in action, attitude and emotion, but also in dress. What is the general consensus....... young men become 'adults' at 27 and it continues to go up. A real problem for us old-timers. :)

I teach 7th grade and I know I havent grow up. I still contribute to middle school humor every freakin day. It enables me to enjoy what I do. June July and August help too! :)

Cipo is the man tights or no tights. He is the what the most interesting man in the world was like when he was young.

I met the most interesting man in the world at an inn in Vermont. His wife was more interesting.

Cipo looks like he's ready to star in an Italian remake of "Knight Rider".

But he makes it look cool.

Am guessing that Cipo will be Berlusconi's replacement. And likely do a better job.

for the record, i am not german ... there is nothing wrong with knight rider. the car was awesome and so was the mechanic. if there is any show ready for a remake, its one with a talking car sidekick.

He's a funny frickin' dude.

“I read an interview with Umberto Veronesi, a scientist, a reputed oncologist and Minister for Health,” Cipollini continued. “In five hundred years or more, human beings might have both sets of genitalia, male and female. I don’t want this evolution to have started already in cycling…”

However, I don't like how he thinks that Basso was some kind of martyr and gets a pass while the rest of the peloton should be crucified. Maybe those two became friends after some modeling shoot?

He should have no problem keeping up to speed in the mistress department. And probably the vanity department as well. But can he keep the trains running on time? We were there last summer and didn't have any problem with the Italian trains, unlike my last experience 30 years ago, when a calendar was as useful as a watch for catching the next train!

Dear Cipo seems to be confusing bravado with manliness.
These are very different traits. Often mutually exclusive, in fact.

yeah he isn't any sort of John Wayne although I bet he would appreciated the compliment. Didn't he act like a premadonna when it came to numerous hillclimbing stages in some races?

Gladiators wore skirts,
Cipo wore Leopard Lycra,

Cipo=Gladiator

At least in his own mind.

Bjarne Riis' team is doing its best to keep the machismo in pro cycling alive and well. ;)

I think he is right. The sport has certainly changed for the worse. IMO
