Am building up a traditional geometry Ottrott over the new few weeks and do not like the stem. I want one that is parallel to the top-tube. Whilst I would like a Moots, $395 (or $595 for the RSL), regardless of the beauty, is a bit much (almost as much as my wheels). Need a 110mm and am using a 3T Forgie bar. Black or Ti are preferred. So what say you?

A 3T or Rithcey stem turned down might do the trick.

Black for sure but the Ritchey is also offered in wet white and wet red.

Black will match your seatpost-maybe a 3T black stem is the ticket. I think I have a Forgie stem, might be 120mm thou...If you're interested, I can check.

Too bad you can't use a 120mm—based on some fitting adjustments, I now have some extra Moots stems, but then again they are +/-6º, so they won't be level.

I find that Deda's so-called dark metal polish looks nice with ti, although it would probably look better if you had a matching seatpost, etc.

I'll check... I think the angle is 80 degrees

I just sent you a pic. It's 110mm, but I am not sure of the rise.

I might have a 110 in +/- 6 degrees. Is that enough angle, or do you want truly level?

Well, rather than asking for a stem (which I would do in the Classifieds), I was really asking for suggestions on stems to use. I'll call Serotta tomorrow and ask them for the info on the HT angle and then can see what I need. I would prefer to get something very nearly parallel with the top-tube.

you will need a stem with an angle the same as the head angle - lots of old quill stems were parallel to the top tube and had ~-17* drop or ~73* rise. The lowest rise of the threadless stems I have seen lately is 80*. maybe a custom stem is in order.

I have a black Cinelli Vai stem that is -17deg. However, it is 12cm and for 26mm bars.

Check out the excelsports catalog. They list Ritchey WCS 4 axis, Pro Road, and 3T Arx Team as being available in 73 degree. None are pictured in the print catalog, but they might have pics online.

I sure wish Serotta was still making the titanium stems. Yes, I know they were a PITA to build, and quite expensive, but I have one and it is the crown jewel on my Ottrot. The thought of having to look at a generic black Deda puts me off another bike.

The online store, at one time, had the 17-degree stem (ARX-Team) on sale.

The Stella Azzura Expresso is a nice stem with an 80° angle in 26.0 diameter. It's not the lightest stem however. Glory Cyles has them

heres the thing, when I stand and sprint, my knees get scratched up by the bolts. but not with the extralite.

OP, this is not that complicated. You basically need a -1 degree stem and you did not need to calll Serotta. You are getting all kinds of suggestions that are not going to be parallel. Oliver gave you some good advice.

Moots is not -17 degrees unless they would do it as a custom.

The simple answer is the Ritchey 4-axis. Although the Ritchey classic lists one length as -17 degrees it is not. The model number shows -6 degrees. I have emailed Ritchey twice about this over the last month but they have not corrected it online.

3T Arx Team and Pro also will work.

Just start looking online if you want more options.

Edit: don't be so sure of the length you need. If you are changing to a -1 degree stem you will probably need to re-calculate the stem length you need. Use the Habanero stem chart: Habanero Stem Chart (http://www.habcycles.com/fitting.html)

+1. Thomson makes a -17 as well.

Moots is not -17 degrees unless they would do it as a custom.Fwiw, Moots does offer custom stems, so you can vary length and rise.

+1. Thomson makes a -17 as well.Once upon a time, memory tells me, the clamping mechanism in the Thomson was considered a poor choice for a carbon steerer. Old wive's tail?

jlwdm - thanks for the stem chart.

Ritchey, Thomson and 3T have -17/73 stems for level with 0deg top tube. If you want silver Velo Orange has a -17, the Ritchey is black only in -17.

Ritchey in 73 degree..parallel to the ground, and top[ tube if the top tube is horizontal.

Ordered the 3T T3 ARX from Excel. That stem chart helped. Couldn't find anyone who could beat their price and have always been happy with their service. Once I get the bike set up and put some miles on it I may see about a custom Moots stem. That's likely not this season, though. The new Zonda wheelset sucked up all my extra bicycle cash for the year. Thanks to all for the info.
