The moots looks like its fuel injected, like the funny cars, to be able to do a burn out... with those slicks, just needs a skinny tire up front.

Wonder what his time is in the 1/4 mile.

I just wonder what you would use the big chainring for with the Pugsley? Seems the Moots drivetrain is more appropriate, those wheels would be a MF to turn ( especially in snow and mud), small chainring all the way.

that would be a hoot riding down some hard pack at the local ski hill

I just bought one of those complete Pugsleys a couple of weeks ago. So far it has been a blast. The wheels are very much like flywheels - the tires are about 3lbs apiece. By the time you throw in the huge rims and mammoth tubes, I think I have a 15-16 lb wheelset. I need to weigh them just to check it out.

The big ring does come in handy if you are on the road trying to get to a trail. Once on the trail, it is all middle or little ring. We managed to get our first snow in KY last Friday and I was out bright and early in it. For once, I am actually looking forward to a snowy winter!

I'd love to have one to ride in the snow. I think that moots is Mike Curiak's iditabike snow machine.

Another option:

I'd prefer the Pugley since it has a steel frame... less jarring than the Mukluk's aluminum one.

I dont know if anything could be jarring with those tires.

Just run 1 or 2 lbs in those massive tires and it'll smooth out any jarring. ;)

They are a blast. We get maybe a couple of days of snow here, but it makes for a great trail bike in these parts, too, as well as a bomber beach bike.

Cool thing about Mike Curiak's is that the fork legs actually carry fuel for a stove.

Check out the fork leg (http://gallery.mtbr.com/showphoto.php/photo/35590)

That would work but I'm waiting for the carbon 29er version. Hopefully Cannondale will produce a Lefty for the big tires.

It is! My winter sanity machine. If it snows, we ski, if it doesn't snow, we ride... The Moots in gorgeous, but the frame costs 8x as much as the Pugs. Frame material isn't really an issue for ride, 3 inches of air smoothes out the bumps. Ti would be nice for corrosion, but the cost difference is hard to justify. Plus, I just sold a 3 year old Pugs to a friend-- Frame Savored it every year and stored it in the garage-- ZERO corrosion on it anywhere.

If you don't like the asymmetric frame, look at the Fatback at

http://speedwaycyclesak.com/pages/fatback.html

Beautiful rides-- Gary solves the chain-rub-on-rear-tire issue with a 165mm rear hub, as opposed to every else using the asymmetric frame and wheels with 135mm hubs front and back. Lots of beer can be consumed having this argument.
His previous models were Ti and pretty spendy, but he just came out with an Aluminum model that isn't much more than the Pugs. He also has the best rims (light, big tire footprint) in the snow bike world. I'll have Gary build me a bike when I find that trunk of money in the basement.

I didn't have a big chain ring on the previous Pugs, do have one on this one and am surprised how much I use it. A smart alternative to the big ring is a bashguard to keep clothing out of the drive train, depending what pants you wear. I use gaitors, so no loose pant legs.

i have two!
the one i like to ride the most and fits the best
i have set up as a single speed 32-18...
on our last trip back from our off-road recreational trail
the three of us enjoyed imagining
just what the board meeting was like
when this pugsley idea with all the accessories
was dreamed up!

Last Spring we had a guy join us on a group ride using his Pugsley. He was faster on his Pugsley than half the people riding road bikes!

Saw one in person over the weekend at a local shop.

Good God those tires are huge. I think the bike could stand up on its own with rubber that wide.

Check out the Fat Bike forum over on the MTBR forums. There are tons of guys who claim that a fat bike is the only (off road) bike you need.
