Love the enthusiasm though.

Believe it or not, off-road unicyclists are quite adept at crossing logs...it is quite a thing to behold.

Indeed. One need look no further than Kris Holm for mUnicycling. He kind of sets the standard for mountain unicycling. Amazing.

I had a custom Hunter mUni not that long ago. I couldn't handle the 26" wheel very well. I'd like to try a more maneuverable 20" wheel for the woods around here.

It's mud that makes me not like riding a road bike too close to the side of the road...

And I ant ride in temps below 40.

I'm the AntiCrossed

The guy in the pink bunny suit had it about right...

The crowd was pretty weak with handups-- I'm in no danger of winning, so free beer is the only reason I even show up for one or two CX races a year...

Have listened to the Two Johns (the Ohio one, I think) rave about tandem CX-- was he in this?

All in all, looked like good, dirty, goofy fun. Maybe I'll grab a bud as a stoker and show up at a race next fall with the mountain tandem. Somebody has to finish last...

PS-- If they feel sillier doing this than I do riding my Pugsley, they fell pretty silly...

This young kid has a future. Bunnyhops and does things on a unicycle that would be hard on a mountain bike. ;)

Quite the balancing act. Am thinking he is holding onto the extra long seat to keep his uni from twisting out from under him. Couple of his downhills remind me of my last mtb ride........ except he missed the tree.

Can't believe people actually dismount for those half buried logs.

It looked to me like many of those dismounting for the logs were on road tandems that probably didn't have the ground clearance to avoid contact with the rings or timing chain. On my Cannondale which is an MTB tandem frame the amount of clearance if much greater than on my road Co-Motion. My guess is that if you did land on the timing chain something would have to snap in two. Just my take.

Ever ride a mountain tandem? It's all about momentum, no matter what. Lose your momentum and you have a big heavy bike going nowhere - and running with a tandem is just plain stupid. That first barrier looked to be plywood. That may have the cross riders on their half bikes dismounting, but with almost 400 pounds a mountain tandem is a little different. On downhills off-road my brakes don't really slow the tandem down much, they just rip toaster sized rocks out of the ground. Do you really think 18" of plywood is going to do any better???

Does riding Pugsley feel silly? I've been kinda eyeing one possibly.

any CyClocrOss involving me (and on completely standard equipment) is sillier than any other cyclocross.

In a delightfully good way. Do it. The first time I came back from a snow ride I was giggling so much that my wife was sure I had scored something illicit. Embrace the chub!
