Hi all,

Beyond Selcof, does anyone know of a decent seatpost that has a 29.4 cm diameter?

In a perfect world it would be carbon, have lots of setback and have a very easy mounting system that I could install a Brooks saddle to.

Any suggestions?

Thank you all in advance,

Steve

Funny you should ask. I was just looking for the same thing myself. I think that Thomson makes at least some posts, and maybe all, in 29.4. American Classic does too, I think.

But the one that I found, at www.competitivecyclist.com is the FSA. It has tons o' setback. I won't say it is attractive. In fact, I would say it is ugly. But it may be good, and it certainly has a lot of setback.

I'd check into Thomson.

The reason that I was interested is that I was drooling over the Big Leg Emma there at competitivecyclist and it takes a 29.4. Too spendy for me, though. I will have to continue to suffer on my Strong......

I'd be inclined to try a shim, in order to expand the selection to any 27.2 diameter post.

I've got the FSA K-force on one of my bikes and it's worked fine so far. It has a nice 2-bolt clamp system, but the bolts are only M5, so don't get carried away when tightening.

I believe the Thomson Elite installed in my Peg Marcelo (which is not for sale, and will not be for sale in the next six months) is of 29.4mm diameter.

Update:

Have a look at http://www.lhthomson.com/elite_sizes.asp. Based on the length, the 29.4 post is intended for MTB applications, but one can be modified easily for a road application with a hacksaw :)

The setback version is not currently available in a 29.4mm diameter, however.

Shims do not work well with carbon frames and carbon seatposts. They work great with metal against metal though or metal against carbon. Something about me (being a big guy) and shims dont seem to mesh....
