Its worth purchasing this just for the novelty factor alone.

Thanks,
Andrew

I hope they don’t seriously think that will secure a bike just sitting there because it’s out of reach. As a kid how did you pick fruit from a tree when you couldn’t reach it? ;)

Someone has way too much time on their hands.

It'd be funny if the next guy with one of these comes along and parks on the same pole and then goes off for holiday!

Maybe in Berlin or Frankfurt, but in NYC, that thing would be gone in a hot second.

That is clever! Crazy expensive, I'm sure, but still fun.

I'm always going the opposite way from everybody else. A number of years ago there was this bicycle pub crawl, for which I have a special bike. By "special" I mean it's a total piece of crap that wobbles down the road. Anyway, at the time they had what was know as the big dig going on in Boston, so there were a few holes in the city that went way, way down. Wanting to secure the drunk bike (not really) and not having a lock, I found a cable in the construction site, looped it around the seat tube, threw the bike in the hole and listened for the landing.

In the “if it worked once it must be a good idea” category:

I once forgot my cable locks on a road camping trip and improvised by using the electrical power cord as a deterrent at night while sleeping. I looped the power cord through the bike frames and wheels prior to plugging in and then ran the AC fan on hi at night. Like an alarm in reverse I figured if the fan quit working someone was taking the bikes. Whether my plan would have worked if put to the test is doubtful – I’ve literally slept through hurricanes when tired. I just hoped thieves wouldn't know what to make of my strange setup.

correct, in NYC it'd be gone.

Just send up another robot. Without the first bike clamped it could be lifted & tumble.

Or a long hooked pole; at some point those wheels are going to skid with excessive weight.

That's just plain stupid. A dumb idea all around

They might be searching for a long time for the right diamater pole or tree trunk.

How about a hot electical zapper, touch any part of the metal, you get zapped, it could be armed and disarmed from remote...

I LOVE the tech and admire the build, I wouldn't use it in a big city, but man is it cool!

If you use that with a lock then it'd be much safer. But still I think it is such a clever design, not a perfect solution by any means. But its neat as hell.

As an electrician I've installed many poles and all of the round ones are usually tapered.
Looked like this device has a fixed diameter?
