I'm talking about how it actually attaches to the clamp. In other words, should the cable come straight up from the bb, or should it come at it from an angle? If there's an illustration or picture somewhere that you can point me to that would really help.

It goes on top of the bolt and wraps around a bit to point to the rider's right.

I hope that helps.

So it comes from the left side (non-drive side) of the bolt and bends around the top towards the drive side? So that the cable is at an upward northeast angle? That's how I have it, i just wanted to make sure it wasn't supposed to come straight up from the bb on the drive side of the bolt.

You have it correct.

over the leverage tab, rather than using it to pinch the cable...that's the key.
