I will be doing some longish endurance ride inside this winter and thought about getting some of the greats.

I really have only seen the most recent TDF stuff like the Lance paradigm. What others do you guys have and recommend?

I now Eddie was the man but never saw any race footage and then Greg L. but only a tad.

Thoughts?

2005 Tour of Flanders. Boonen, van Petegem, Zabel and Ballan duke it out in the last few K's. It's also fun to watch them all go balls out racing to the cobbled climbs.

If you're interested check out the classics, A Sunday in Hell, Stars and Watercarriers, Le Course en Téte.

Hell on Wheels is a cool documentary even though T-Mobile ended up being a disaster.

Also keep in mind, a 4 hour trainer ride is a 4 hour trainer ride no matter how many good videos you have. Best of luck this winter!

There is a package of the 3 Lemond TdF wins..nice videos. Stars and Watercarriers, Sunday in Hell, Le course en Tete. Breaking Away. American Flyers isn't bad.

The 3 Lemond TdF wins are good. Learned a great deal about him. Not enough to like him as a person. But, he was a hell of a competitor.

Well sure. Could say that about a lot of pros these days. I love the one scene when he's talking about Chiapucci.."I don't wish him success'...great line.

. . . go to the Battenkill web site and see if they are still selling the training DVD. It's over 3 hours long, has a really nice hard driving rock soundtrack, and good contour graphics to let you see what's coming. It's also a very different sort of route with about 1/3 dirt.

Thanks you guys I am going to look at all of this stuff. I am doing longer easier rides 3x per week. Right now those are 2-3 hours. Later in the winter I will get some 4 hour ones in too. The difference between 3-4 hours is a leap for me. I have done a 5 hour one but I have never really recovered mentally :D . Not fun at all.

I can do 2x2h pretty easy mentally.

Netflix is a big help and having a really nice setup is also. Regardless the long ones are harder than the hard hour workouts for sure.

I also like to do them early in the morning as it does not kill off a big part of the day. I was on for 2:15 today from 6:00am to 8:15 and at ice skating with my daughter by 10. Not really that bad.

I would say there are certain requirements for good race video: hairnets, rain and/or pave.
YouTube has endless amounts of great racing, but I would certainly recommend the 1989 Worlds (chambery, france) and any tour of flanders or paris-roubaix from 1986 to 1995 (anything earlier and the picture quality is usually a bit dicey).

I guess the real elephant in the room is, why such long indoor rides?:D

Thank you. Back then I was in decent shape, had a coach and did a little racing. But now I am not really interested in more than about 2 hours on the trainer. Mostly 60-90 minutes.

2016 Paris Roubaix. Full race coverage. Mad attacking and counterattacking in the first hour of racing. One of the few races where the action was mesmerizing for more than 3 hours.

Closely followed by 2011 PR and 2013 PR.

Not a race but another idea you might consider is the Col Collective on Youtube. You can use their playlist and create hour+ of paradise riding in the Cols.
