is there some table of the brake reach for various models of brakes?
i'm trying to compare campy vs. shimano vs sram reach.

alternatively, can someone put them in order? nothing scientific necessary. anecdotal evidence is fine. thanks.

Do you mean the brake reach ranges of the brakes themselves, sometimes called the brake calipers, or do you mean the length of the brifters as it relates to the additional arm reach from the handlebar to the grasped surface of the brifter?

sorry, i'm referring to the brake calipers' reach (ie long reach vs short reach brakes), not the levers.

i'm coming up a couple mm short with my 10sp chorus brakes and want to know if shimano or sram brakes can give me just a little more. maybe even the 11sp brakes if they've changed at all.

mostly three reaches. right?

normal short - all the most common road grouppos have these, 39-49
longer medium otherwise known as "standard" - as in Shimano and Tektro, 47-57
longer long - as in Tektro R556, 55-73

this might suggest Campag is 40-50:

that's all i got.

From the charts I have, Campy brakes circa '92-94 actually had a variation such as 40-51.5mm, 41-52.5mm, or 39-50mm depending on model. Why Campy wouldn't standardize their reach specs is beyond me.

For Shimano, virtually ALL their short reach brakes are 39-49mm, from Shimano 105-Dura Ace, for the 18 models listed.

I don't have specs for SRAM, nor does their technical literature list it.

i was hoping shimano or sram would offer a little more reach but if anything, it looks as tho they're a tad shorter than campy. i may have to go the long reach route

and they reach down to 49 or 50 mm. you need a little longer reach, no?

why can't you get some standard reach ones from Shimano or Tektro that start at 47 and go to 57? would that not solve the problem?

dude. i am thinking some info is being left out. if you got a standard frameset with standard 700c wheels, most often short reach brakes do reach.

If you're coming up short was your bike designed for standard reach brakes or did someone install a fork with odd spacing? Are you short at the front and the rear brakes?

I feel like an idiot.

One side was higher than the other so I removed the pads to see what's up and found crap built up inside the slots preventing the pads from coming all the way down. Couldnt see it with the shoes in there. All good now. :D
