View Full Version : tire size on Speedcity wheels?

What is the max tire size that can be used on Mavic Speedcitys? I happen to have a spare pair and really like them AND was toying with the idea of buying a 29er frame. Would these wheels work? WELL? Could I install a 2.0" tire on these wheels and have them perform well?

Alternatively, I could scrap the entire idea n just put the extra wheels up for sale on the Forum here.- That would be the smart idea, but not the fun idea.

Thanks for encouraging me to do the wrong thing...

if you know the rim width you can check acceptable tire sizes on-line.

Mavic says 19 to 32mm. It is a narrow rim 622x13. I would say it wouldn't be optimal to run MTB size tires on them.

I have run 38c tires on mine. But nothing larger yet. The wheels are for sale if anyone needs a set, they can run tubeless....

I googled this on the web and people were saying that they have used 2.1 and even 2.3s. I think think is a bit much, but I think I could live with 50mm (2" tires).

It seems that no one here has actually tried this?

Thanks to all for replies.

I ran 2.0 mountain tires on these rims for my first 29er build.

They were WTB Exiwolf I think. The selection of 29er tires was limited.

Could never get a successful tubeless setup and they were a little flexy because of the low spoke count.

Still have them on a commuter.
