you might want to watch the first film on this page, "last minutes with oden". but you probably will want to watch it at home, not at work. i cried. it's heartbreaking, but it's a beautiful capturing of how much dogs can mean to us. heck, there's even bike content.

My daughters, about 15 years ago, saw me cry for the first time,

My 1st lab ,and the one that used to pull the snow sled for my daughters, became very ill.

No matter how much in $$s I spent nor would continue to give to the vet, he could not be saved.

He was a member of the family.

Climb, thanks. PETE

Great and so Sad at the same time. Was one of the toughest things I have had to do in my life to date. Knew the decision was right, didn't/doesn't make it any easier.

As frequently used here, "+1". That is what a family pets is, +1.

You have 1 one kid, the pet makes it 2. You have 2, now you have 3.

That was a very tough thing to watch - especially after I learned that Oden was suffering from cancer.

Osteosarcoma often affects the long (leg) bones of larger dogs. The usual treatment is amputation. I have a Bedlington Terrier named Mr Pickles. 2 years ago this month, he started having trouble walking. After a number of vet visits, we finally received the dreaded diagnosis - cancer. He was just a 10 month old puppy and only weighed 20 pounds. He was suffering the fate of an older larger dog. The next shock was the location of the cancer - his spine. Kind of tough to amputate that. The tumor was pressing on his spinal column causing the pain and the inaility to use his back legs. An exploratory operation confirmed the diagnosis and the tumor was removed. The vet indicated that he had a year at best. Well, he is still with us and other than a tail which doesn't always cooperate, he is incredibly agile and active. I am glad that I had the means to pay for his treatment but I know that he could leave us on a very short notice.

That video really hit home

I just gave Truckie a really long belly scratch. He just looked up at me with knowing eyes and told me he unconditionally loves me - and a bit of a worried look as I usually don't hug him like I just did unless it is followed by a bath... he hates baths...

Dogs rule.

Pets enrich our lives in ways that so much more than offset the heartbreak depicted here.
Worthy of a cry. Glad I can.

Great post Climb...

Had many dogs and know the filling very well.

I had a neighbor that had a dog, it was a sight for soor eyes when he came home in the evening. The way they greeted each other, there was equal love from both... Heck, I am telling the story now, thats how great it was to watch them two..

Thanks for that Climb. "They show us how to LOVE", it's so true. I am crying now but it's a good kind of cry.

I'll never forget my first lab.

and won't forget my second lab, when the time unfortunately comes.

But Kasey, the first -- I have his paw print tattooed on my leg. He's not going anywhere.

dogs simply rule. Stella will listen to me talk about bikes for hours after my wife has left the room. she is truly a best friend to me.

Wow that was hard to watch, having just put down our springer, Henry a few months ago. In Eugene and I'm sure elsewhere there are vets that will come to the house; that made it somewhat better.

Dogs are very special, and they make us (at least my wife and me) a little insane. How else do you explain deciding to bring not one but two puppies into a life that already is dealing with a teenage kid struggling to find his way, parents with dementia, 4 parrots and oh let's not forget the bike addiction.
