Setting the differences in the crankset and cassette aside, is Red still lighter than DA 7800? By how much? I can't seem to find DA 7800 weights online. Thanks.

2010 Force is lighter than DA7800 and the levers are on Bonktown now!

If going for weight reduction (WW mode, no need to debate water bottles and winter fat), the Red shifters vs. DA is a huge number. I could never crack 15 lbs with my size frame and clinchers until I went to Red shifters and light brake calipers (TRP). This was tough to do because I had a negative view of Red sound and thus quality vs. DA, but the issues some have with DA7900 made me try the newest generation of Red and I have been pleased. I put NOS 7800 shifters on my newest Crumpton because they remain ne plus ultra in feel, IMO, but I've got Red shifters on two bikes and they feel high enough quality to me.

Shimano always been heavier because they do not use carbon nowhere, and i believe neither titanium, campagnolo uses carbon and titanium for a while now.

Yeah, I don't think I'll get below 16lbs even with the lightest junk. I just got a warranty replacement, giving me two bikes and I have DA 7800 and Red. I just need to decide what goes where (and whether ceramic BB30 bearings are worth the cost).

And before anyone says it, I do train harder. The tech stuff is just plain fun!

Any one do DA7800 crank, cassette, and chain on a Red shifter/derailleur combo? Hopefully retain most the shift quality (especially at the front chain ring) while keeping the lighter weight shift components?

'Huge'? Must be winter. After warranty-ing my 7th sram shifter(another broken shift lever), they don't seem high enough quality to me..plus over $500. Great customer service tho except they are out' of Force and Red shifters..so much for rebuildability, no shift innards either.

The group is a half pound lighter? Wow!
Whomever possesses such a feathery component system will disappear into the distance on the next group ride leaving the 7800 users among us struggling behind. :D

I WAS specific about the WW context, but you just could not help yourselves.

You know how much self control that requires... You are asking too much of us.

On a related subject, I need a new BB for the 7800 stuff. I get the sense that any of the Shimano BBs will work (7900, 7800, 6700, 6600). Is any one of these any better than the other?

The 7900 supposedly has upgraded seals, I'd probably go for that.

For $30 on Amazon and free shipping, it's hard to go wrong.
