David Millar, Jeannie Longo win Chrono des Nations-Les Herbiers Vendée time trial

David Millar (Garmin-Transitions) capped a tremendous final month of his 2010 season with victory in the Chrono des Nations-Les Herbiers Vendée time trial in France on Sunday.
In the women’s race, American Amber Neben finished second to Jeannie Longo.
The time trial is the traditional finale to the European season, typically coming in the wake of the Giro di Lombardia.
While Lombardia draws the one-day specialists in the final fall classic of the calendar, the Chrono des Nations sees many of the top time trial specialists tackle the invitational in western France.
Hot off victory at the Commonwealth Games and a silver medal at the world cycling championships, Millar traveled from Australia via India, where he also scored a bronze medal in the road race, to France to claim the top spot on the podium.
The Garmin-Transitions captain stopped the clock in 58 minutes, 53.270 seconds in the 48.5km test against the clock.
Edvald Boasson Hagen (Team Sky) was second at 2:19 off Millar’s pace, with Lieuwe Westra (Vacansoleil) rounding out the podium with third at 3:06 slower.
Millar opened his best season since his comeback from a doping ban in 2006 with three wins in the spring, including TT victories at the Criterium International and the Three Days of De Panne, where he also won the overall title.

In the women’s race, meanwhile, Longo (Palais Sports Alpexpo-Rhone-Alpes) took the victory in 29:22, 30 seconds faster than runner-up Neben. Edwige Pitel was third at 1:07.
