I am interested in setting up indoor roller racing a la David Perry
of bike cult .com for kids here in Charlotte, NC, to encourage
staying active during the colder months. When the kids
are not using the set up I might want to set something up
and some bike shops as a promotion as well.

I don't think I can afford or locate Barelli Quadrulet machine.
Can anyone think of how to do this using a modern set up
with bicycle, stationary software and computer software?

Any recommendations are appreciated.

Thanks,
Andrew

Roller racing with forkstands is also called goldsprints (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goldsprint).

The mechanical Barelli rollers are being reproduced by Rollapaluza (http://www.rollapaluza.com/) and available under their franchise agreement.

The less expensive and modernized version would be electronic. OpenSprints LLC (http://www.opensprints.com/) has an open source solution that has been tested by Specialized Bicycle Components as well as Bacardi USA, as well as hundreds of other groups internationally. They subcontract Kreitler (Mountain Racing Products) to make specialty rollers designed to withstand the physical demands the racers put on the equipment.
