If the pace was so slow on the first day.....
Hunter stopped the clock in 5:47:52 (128.9 miles), more than an hour slower than the slowest estimated time listed in the race bible. "In the race booklet there are three columns for slow, medium and fast average speed," said Navigators Chris Baldwin. "Floyd [Landis] and I were joking that we were about seven columns to the left of anything they put in the race booklet."

Why were so many people so far down?

119 Mark McCormack (USA) Colavita Olive Oil - Sutter Home 7.38
120 Jonathan Page (USA) Colavita Olive Oil - Sutter Home 7.38

because at the very end, the race got fast and if you weren't with the lead group when it hit the local circuits, you were done for. It was like a really slow race, with a crit at the end.

I guess that I was just surprised that McCormack and Page (and others) could both lose over 7 minutes. That seems like a ton of time to lose. Were they lapped?
