I'm going to ride Bainbridge Island this Saturday and am inviting along any Seattle area forumites that might want to join me.

Ride looks to be about 30 miles with 3k ft. of climbing. I'm slow, but will be happy to sit in if you're faster.

PM me or post a message on here if you're interested.

Was thinking of getting the 11:25 ferry from Seattle.

Saturday is supposed to be nice and sunny....and Bainbridge is a great ride.

I have a couple soccer games to attend...one as spectator and one as coach Saturday AM, so I won't be able to make it.

Also, I have not been on my bike since June...still trying to get my back fixed without surgery.

Have fun!

there is a REALLY good BBQ place in Oak Harbor. Real smoked not the boiled or oven cooked crap others cover in sauce and call "BBQ".

Oak Harbor is on Whidbey Island....near NAS Whidbey. ;)

Are you thinking of Mike's Four Star BBQ in Port Gamble? Port Gamble was always one of my favorite stops on various MS 150 and American Lung Assn rides I used to do...

This BBQ place is in downtown Winslow, a couple of blocks from the ferry:

I've never stopped there because I usually stop at the Blackbird Bakery on my way back to the ferry.

I thought this would bring you out of the woodwork, Matt!

Sometime when I'm out there I'll have to give this a whirl...

The plan as it stands now, is that BengeBoy and myself will be meeting at the Ferry in Seattle at 11 (as he informs me, they load bikes before the cars).

I'll be wearing a yellowish/green vest/jersey that says "TUCK", (not very subtle).

If you're fast, feel free to go over early and do a lap around the island to tire yourself out before I get there so that I'll be able to keep up with you.

I'll be there.

I wouldn't be surprised if northbend is riding in from North Bend.

I'm geographically challenged (in this area anyway), after consulting a map, I see what you mean. northbend will hopefully be sufficiently worn out that I don't look like a slouch.

What I really meant is that I *hope* he rides in from North Bend, otherwise I'm toast.

Final bump.

Speak now or forever hold your peace.

Anyone* is welcome to come, as it looks now like we'll have 3. Meet 11am for the 11:25 ferry at the Seattle Ferry station. My kit will say TUCK.

*Anyone on a proper two wheeled double triangle frame is welcome. I'm not riding with no recumbents. Keep that lumbering thing away from me. ;) ;) Just kidding, sorta. Everyone is welcome.

sounds like fun but I already have a commitment for a ride that day. I will keep looking though as I haven't ridden the Island for lots of years, maybe 25 ....

Sorry, I still in San Diego until December. After that, I'm good for BI rides. It's ten miles from my house to the Agate Passage bridge.

A nice fall day. Perfect riding weather. Thanks Matt for suggesting this ride and BengeBoy for leading us.

Thanks Matt and Steve for showing me around, and going slow!

Matt, glad to see you got home ok.

The ride was great, beautiful scenery, great food, great company.

Sorry I missed it! Abbe and I caught the To Kill a Mockingbird thing at the public library and had a smashing non-vegan dinner at Maximillian's at the Market to finish off our anniversary celebration.

Let's plan on a Mercer Island spin in the near future.

Thanks boys for posting your ride.
I definitely will make Bainbridge Island a must do next time I'm out in Seattle.

I drove my daughter out there this month and left my S/S TriCross so I can have a bike to ride when I come to visit.

Do you need gears for that ride?

Not knowing your age/fitness level I will relate to my own. I (53 years) frequently ride a fixed gear (distances up to 170 miles) set up at 65GI's. For me, there is one hill on the route we chose that has a short steep section I would have walked. Other than that, it's all very do-able.

Matt,

You should ride up Toe Jam Hill next time you're on the Island. I remember it as a killer.

I'll now answer from a mere mortal's perspective. Yeah, you need gears. I am slow and need to lose 30 pounds... I was thankful to have a triple.

Some of the hills consisted of Matt (northbend) riding up the hill, turning around and coming part way back down, and riding up again. (this was after he road 35 miles to get to the ferry, and before he was going to ride 35 miles back home after the ferry)

I'll say this, except for one portion in the latter part of the ride, the pavement quality was very good. Definitely a ride I'd do again.

I found myself on multiple occasions during the ride, thinking "this is Matt, he rides a triple, HARDEN THE F___ UP, Matt"

edit: there were two Matt's on the ride. The fast one (northbend) and me. I was the one with the triple that needed to HTFU. Northbend is already a hardman.

That one is not for the weak of heart. The one time I did Toe Jam I went up on a 34-26 and had a tough time keeping the bike moving. Definitely a steep climb.

Ozz,
Which club are you coaching for Swellevue, Lake Hills or Issaquah? If by chance you get a girl ref'ing your game who might be struggling to get the calls right or blowing the whistle loud enough, go easy on her... it might be my darling daughter who'll be ref'ing, for the first time...

And for me, yet another sunny Saturday shot, watching kids sports again.
