I am thinking of servicing my own rear wheel hub. It is a Shimano 7850CL wheel and the the hub is "grinding" when I spin it. Probably has about 1,000 miles on it maybe less...

Any insight on how easy or hard it is to service this hub? i.e take apart, clean grease and put back together. I am relatively handy. How long should it take me the first time approx?

What will I need if I decide to venture down this road?
- What tools do I need
- Grease
- Websites / videos recommended
- Tips and advice from the forum

Thanks in advance

You can do this.

Park tool has the necessary info/photos and lists the tools you need. Look at the instructions for the 7800 DA freehub, which looks to me to be pretty similar to the Shimano 7850 wheel freehub. Shimano has blow-up diagrams of their parts on their website. Take a look at that also.

Give yourself 45-60 minutes the first time.

you want to oil the pawls, not grease them. :)

triflow or phil bio lube are pretty good
