I was planning to ride through that area this afternoon. Hopefully they can contain these fires before more homes are destroyed.

That's unfortunate for those affected. The bigger issue how to balance the desires of people to live near wilderness, and the absolutely natural cycle of fire and rebirth in that same wilderness.

No easy answer. And unfortunately, many years of aggressive policies to fight wildfires has left immense amounts of fuel that now causes even small fires to quickly grow into large and difficult to contain infernos.

Yeah, I was up in that area on Friday. Scary. The tough thing about west Boulder is that there are a lot of people who want to live up there and they're ready to spend big $$$ to make it happen, natural fire danger or not.
