The stock sizing on older frames did have a bit shorter top tube. I had a late 80's Nova that was 58x57, and my 92 Colorado II is a 58x57. I had another Colorado II that was a "58L", 58x58. Incidently, the Nova was made from Columbus SL, but I don't remember if that was reflected in the serial number.

my CSi was 58x57.5 and my Legend was 60x58.5 both stock

The Nova was originally SL. They later (I think) offered a Nova X with SLX. I'm pretty sure that mine had a tubing decal.
Does your use standard diamater, straight tubing... no flaring of tubing near BB and strainght chainstays? Here are some catalog links that might be helpful:
