Yep, ya gotta place a reserve minimum. The frame alone is worth $500.

Not on ebay.

Someone needs to learn when to end their auctions. Hint, it's not early Sunday morning.

Not too smart either to have an auction end at 9:30 a.m. PST, not to mention on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend...

I won a Concours on eBay when the auction ended on thanksgiving night...$425 shipped with an F1 fork. Sellers need to pay attention to these things, so do buyers! ;)

Agreed, wonder why it was not alerted here? Not that I would have paid attention since it was too large for me.

Given the number of bids I'd say that that was about all the market was willing to bear.

Astute observation Louis, I agree.

On eBay, New Years Eve and AM, Thanksgiving evening, Christmas Eve and AM, Super Bowl Sunday and random 3 day weekends are all very kind to buyers.

well, it's not my size and those rolf wheels sure are ugly :)

i "watch" a lot of ebay bike auctions for no real reason. the last thing i was really kicking myself over was this one:

Ahh thats a nice bike! I have definitely had a few situations like this too... On the positive side, if I miss it, I save spending some money I dont have.

The market...

... doesn't like the timing.

The market doesn't like the sub-95% feedback score.

The market doesn't like the $120 shipping fee.

The market doesn't like rust on steel bikes coming from Florida.

a subsequent buyer might hear you...

Coupled with the balance of Thwart's comments and you get a great deal for the buyer. Even if the rust is terminal, you could resell the parts and cover your cost.

Unless it's going to a friend or "good cause", this transaction is one of the better arguments for parting out your old bike rather than selling it whole. Probably $500 on the table in exchange for an hour of wrenching, 20 more pics and $50 more in ebay fees.

It was my size too...

Hey Tom, at one time I thought the "Market" was "all that" until the day we as in the "working stiffs" had to bail the "market" out in the tune of 700 billion and some odd change. As far as I'm concerned the "market" could go take a flying leap off a tall building... ;)

There is no market for used bikes these days.

While I consider most of my purchases good deals over the years, I wish I was starting all over on my collection.

And based on the overwhelming evidence of the two examples in this thread, red, white & blue paint schemes ain't so popular, either.
Maybe the market just hates our freedoms! ;)

I'd assume also that the market doesn't provide many buyers for a frame that size, as our own frame size poll would indicate.

Too bad that went unnoticed, I've got a buddy looking for a good steel ride, would've been a perfect fit for him. Too darn big for me.

You may be right as I have an example of a R/W/B scheme unsold!

Couple of days later, there is this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/SCATTANTE-2010-Road-Bike-15-5-lbs-/260661257913?pt=Road_Bikes&hash=item3cb09f26b9

So, let's see... A CSI with DA hardly breaks $500, but a Scattante with one of those mass-produced Chinese CF frames, absolutely forgettable paint job, and 105 components, easily goes over $1000. Let's add to this a Saturday late night close to the auction, few and bad pictures, and a half-literate description. Also, please note that this is a reserve auction, which means that the price could have easily gone higher if bidders were not discouraged by the unknown reserve. OK, there are the Easton wheels... What else could explain that the MARKET values this bike at more than double above the CSI?

Louis

I'd say because CF is considered much hotter, more modern than steel.

Different strokes for different folks. Let's hope he enjoys his new bike...
