I need to ship a frame and fork to Japan as cheaply as possible. FedEx and UPS are $370+ so I'm planning to use the USPS. Their online calculator indicates that it will be roughly $100, $81 shipping plus $19 for additional insurance. Has anyone shipped a frame or bike to Japan recently? Does that seem correct?

I haven't shipped a frame to Japan, but that seems cheap to me. Did you take the box size into consideration (for calculating the dimentional weight)? The dimentional weight will add to the shipping price in a hurry.......

The key to USPS shipping is keeping the overall size below 108 total inches (length + width (x 2) + height (x 2). It is sometimes actually cheaper to ship in two boxes, frame and parts in one box and a separate wheel box. If the box is ANY over 108 the charge will be a whole lot more.

It will be shipped in a heavily padded and reinforced bike box, 42x22x8.5in, which will weigh an estimated 15 pounds. I've had problems with the USPS calculator in the past on small items and don't trust it.
