hi there,

I picked up a 10-spd campy/mavic wheelset second-hand, and am trying to ID the 11-23 cassette. Each of the cogs is steel, and the 21-23 has the following ID number near the "21": "A2F".

Your help is much appreciated.

Only the last 2 cogs hooked together on a carrier? Centaur.

21-23 are hooked, as are the 17-19 cogs. Does that change anything?

Don't own any 11-23 cassettes (see my sig below... ), but all my Chorus 10 spd ones (12-25, 13-26, 13-29) have 3 groups of 2 linked cogs on carriers.

So generally Centaur has the 2 largest cogs on a carrier, and Chorus has the 6 largest cogs on carriers. Record is like Chorus, but the 4 (sometimes 2) largest cogs are Ti instead of steel.

I recently bought two Centaur cassettes from Ribble, They are both all loose cog. No cogs are pinned together. One a 13-26 and one a 13-29. They look same as Veloce to me. Were a couple dollars more than Veloce. I believe new Centaur cassette has been cheapened up with advent of 11's system.

They both have 3 different size spacers. A 2.4 MM for the first 3 spaces, then a 2.4 spacer with "ears", then a 2.55MM with ears, then two 2.4mm with ears, than a 1.6 MM between the two largest because the largest cog kinda leans over, so spacer doesn't have to be as much. No A2F on these or the 11-23 size according to the booklet that came with them. It's maybe an older Centaur cassete when they were making them lighter by using carriers between the largest cogs.

My first generation Chorus from many years ago was pinned together like you describe. I don't think any of the newer cassettes are pinned.

I had a similar situation and found this bikeforum thread (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=609020) had the diagram and summary info (see last post) that I needed to ID my cassette.

For 2010 Veloce became Centaur, Veloce then became galvanized, less exciting cog finish but equal durability and function for less $. Centaur no longer has a spider. No other 10s cogsets now in production from Campagnolo. All others are 11s, Chorus, ecord or SR.

For another poster, small point-Record 10s always had 4 ti cogs, never just 2.
