. . . I’m afraid if we encourage Dave in this new business, he will spend less and less time welding. And that would be a bad thing.

BBDave . . . always thinking of the welfare of the greater cycling community.

I wonder which skill is tougher to master, sewing or welding?

..."Miss Spider's Wedding" is one of my all-time favorite children's books. Beautiful, creative illustrations, and a love story that's meaningful for 4 year olds and 44 year olds.

Mr. Kirk should change his name, though. I don't care which one... ;)

OK....you've caught me red handed. I'm not ashamed, I don't have a problem and I could quit at any time.

I've never met the "other" David Kirk but I have what I think is a funny story. It turns out that both of us lived in upstate NY.

When I was still working with Ben and living in NY I got a phone call one afternoon. It was from a large newspaper (forgotten which one). The very nice reporter said she wanted to talk to me about my "ground breaking work". I'm thinking "cool, someone noticed what I do!".

So she asks what my inspiration was for my latest work. I told her about ride quality, and handling..........long silence. " Is this David Kirk? David Kirk the children's illustrator?"

"Uhhhhmmmm.......no. I'm a bicycle frame builder" (you always have to throw in the "bicycle " word or they think you build houses). Long silence #2.

"I'm sorry Mr. Kirk.....I must have the wrong person". I'm not sure who was more embarrassed. Both of us had good reason the be.

Time to make the donuts.

you are the famous and important one in our books. Now lets find the reporter to do the story.

I've been riding a doh-nut?

And all this time I thought it was a ginger snap....

Dave, you're too funny. At least you're a humble man. I would have probably talked about "how I've reached the pinnacle of my trade" or "I was often lonely because others were so envious my abilities..." I probably would have finished with "So if you're lucky I might be available later, babe..."

Then I'd go back to my sewing.

and if you search on ebay for Peter Weigle you get an esoteric book by Marta Weigle and Peter White. hmmmm. Dunno about these framebuilders.

Next we'll find out that Richard Sachs is the principal behind Twizzlers and actually is plugging them in his posts here.
