Hi,

Can anyone tell me if Shimano's front derailleur FD 6600 is compatible with a 34x50 chain ring combo? Shimano's tech document says 15 teeth only.

Also, has anyone used this FD with a 105 shifter (originally for a triple, but switched to double)?

Thanks.

Yes it is. shimano didn't change their FD design when they started making compacts(R600). They also magically made the teethdifference 16 teeth. It will work great with that shifter and a compact.

Since we are posting FD compability questions, I have one as well.

I have a 2006 Campy Record FD and short-cage RD with standard cranks. I have plans to convert this bike to a hill-climbing bike by just replacing the cranks.

Will the current FD work with compact cranks? Is 26t the largest I can go in the back without having to replace it?

Thanks.

Yes it will and you can use a 13-29 w/o changing anything else including the RD. I have had that setup, short cage, standard FD and 13-29 on a demo Moots for 3 years. Now it has 11s, compact and 12-29...

I'm using a Shimano 6600 FD with a Campy 34x50 compact crank, and it shifts flawlessly.

Yep, there is a lot more intercompatibility that some might expect. More than the manufacturers would like you to know about and lots discovered by just trying it..like a Campagnolo FD with shimano 10s STI..that works great also.
