21 lbs.? How could he climb on such a heavy bike? And how did he descend without a 53x11? ;)

That would be a great historic bike to own! I'd even leave it in pink.

does anyone know what the profile (height/width) of the "Wolber Profile 18" aero rims on his bike were?

That bike isn't pink it's red just looks pink because of the bad photo.

John Slawata from Landshark had that bike on display at the NAHMBS in Portland 2 years ago. I believe Andy is still the owner but lets it be displayed for others to enjoy.

If you have a spare minute, thanks. Just want to see how they compare (design wise) to todays aero rims like the Velocity Deep Vee, Fusion or CXP-23/33.

Thanks

Wow that bike is exactly my size.
Notice how in the old days there was a lot more precission.
55.5 C-C and 125 mm stem. You sure don't see that kind of sizing anymore

Height of the Wolber 18's are about where a Velocity Aerohead measures out to be.

I wonder why the 88 Giro is not available on DVD. I've got the Coors Classic collection, the Lemond 86, 89, 90 Tour and 89 Worlds, the Lance 93 Worlds but not the one and only time an American won the Giro. It's outrageous, egregious, and preposterous!

The best way to find out more about the bike is to book one of Andy's Cinghiale.com trips in Italy and spend a week riding with him. Great guy. Great trip. Great experience.

This will give you a flavor of what is possible: http://italiancyclingjournal.blogspot.com/2009/08/part-i-andy-hampsten-and-gavia-and-few.html
