cx season is coming up, and for those of us who didn't race road this year, it's (past) time to start thinking about training. so what's your training regimen? good resources for training knowledge? do you do anything different training cross vs. road? e.g. do you set up barriers in your front yard and/or go ride technical singletrack like Tim Johnson? or are you like me and you just sit around and watch Tim Johnson train on video?

diet?

mileage?

days on/days off?

Diet is the one thing I need to work on.

Assuming you have a decent base built, you'll have to start transitioning into more intensity soon.

Coach has me doing:

Monday: Active Recovery
Tuesday: Endurance
Wednesday: 4x10 tempo, 4x2 LT
Thursday: Endurance
Friday: Day Off
Saturday: 2x20 tempo, 6x30 seconds Anaerobic
Sunday: MTB race, if not 3 or 4 hours endurance.

As far as skills stuff vs. mountain bike, I try to keep a good balance. I've got my practice course near my house I'll go to once, a week, and usually try to get out on the MTB once or twice a week.

what's a decent base in your opinion?

I think it'd depend person to person.

I started off the season racing 100 mile mtb races, so I've got about a million hours of zone 2 and muscular endurance stuff, starting all the way in early January.
